         Information Technology is an evolving interdisciplinary branch of engineering that deals with the use of computers, communications and Internet based technologies. It specializes specifically in using computer and communications technology to acquire the skills for developing and maintaining systems, storing, retrieving and transmitting information.

         In this 21st century, society will be increasingly dependent on information technology and demand IT professionals will remain high throughout the decades to come. Information Technology plays a vital role in Software developing and networking world. This course provides broad range of skills. Information Technology engineers needs in order to meet the challenges of a diverse range of careers both at home and abroad and continues to expand. Some of graduates move into employment as programmers, systems analyst, software engineers and consultants.
    Students joining B.Tech in IT branch are required to posses
         * Basic Mathematics like mathematical logic, set theory, graph theory,
            distributions etc.
         * Good communication skills
         * Should have interest in continuous learning as new technologies emerge
         * Should have endurance to work for long hours
         To get good career opportunities, students should have a good grasp on programming languages, operating systems and management expertise.
         * Unix, Linux Operating System knowledge
         * C++, Java Language Programming experience
         * Database Management expertise
         * Web designing skills
         * Project Management abilities
    Certifications
        Students need to have certifications in various fields to grab career opportunities. Through certification, professionals gain the skills, knowledge and validation needed to be recognized as an expert in the technologies. MTA, MCSE, CCNA, SCJP Certification are few of the many credentials an IT professional may achieve.
        Microsoft certification programs are considered to be the major advancement to gain both professional and education background. Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) is a recommended entry point into IT certification and job preparation. If you are just starting your IT career, MTA will validate your core knowledge in IT infrastructure, database design or software development using Microsoft technologies. The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification prove an individual's expertise in designing and implementing the required infrastructure for any type of business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform and Microsoft Windows Server System.
        The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates knowledge of networking with certified professionals able to install, configure and operate WAN, LAN and Dial access services for small networks.
        SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer) is certification in core Java provided by Oracle. Other level of certification in Java are on Advanced Java, Java ME etc.
        The ultimate goal of all IT certifications is in the development of your professional career in validating the expertise required for job role in any small, middle or large company.
    Difference between IT & CSE
        CSE lays emphasis on foundation on computing. It deals with various aspects of computation like analysis of algorithms, formal grammer, programming languages, program design, software and computer hardware.
         IT focuses on satisfying the computing technology needs of organisations. IT deals with the application of computing technology to real life processes for solving problems. IT professionals perform a variety of tasks that range from applications development to designing complex computer networks and information databases. They are suited for data management, networking, web development, database and software design as well as the management and administration of entire systems.
         Opportunities are open to students of both the fields. If you have to choose a field between IT and Computer Science, you can go for the field which captures your interests. Also if we compare the syllabus between IT and CSE in different engineering institutes in our country, the difference between the two branches is not significant. Most of the top Indian institutions like IITs, IIITs, most of NITs offer either CSE or IT but not both. In the institutions that offer both CSE and IT, the differences in the course structure are minimal.
