World Gold Council appoints David Tait as next CEO
Market development organization for the gold industry, The World Gold Council announced the appointment of David Tait who has a very successful career in the financial services industry as the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
David began his professional career at Goldman Sachs. Before his appointment as the CEO of World Gold Council, he worked as the Global Head of Fixed Income Macro Products at Credit Suisse.

Georgia elects its first female president Salome Zurichishvili
Salome Zurabishvili has won Georgia’s presidential election, becoming the first woman to hold the office in the country. She will take oath for the office on 16th December 2018.
The French-born ex-diplomat, backed by the ruling Georgian Dream party, had taken 59.52% of the total votes and defeated her rival candidate Grigol vashadze who received 40.5% of the votes.
She had served as Foreign Minister of Georgia from March 20, 2004 to October 19, 2005 and was previously an ambassador in the French Foreign Service.

NGT appoints former HC judge U C Dhyani to monitor Ganga cleaning
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has appointed former Uttarakhand High Court judge, Justice U C Dhyani, as head of the three-member committee to oversee rejuvenation work of the Ganga River.

Abhinav Bindra was honoured with the prestigious Blue Cross, the highest recognition of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and Raninder Singh becomes first Indian to be elected ISSF’s vice-president.
Raninder is currently the president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
Vladimir Lisin, of Russia was elected as the seventh president of ISSF and Alexander Rather was elected as the new secretary general of ISSF.

Pawan Singh is the first Indian to be elected in ISSF’s judges committee
Pawan Singh became the first Indian to be elected as one of the 7 members of the Judges Committee of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF).
Pawan Singh is also the Joint Secretary General of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). He was a former coach of the Indian shooting team.

Axis Capital CEO Dharmesh Mehta stepped down; Salil Pitale and Chirag Negandhi appointed as joint MD and co-CEO
MD & CEO of Axis Capital, Mr. Dharmesh Mehta stepped down.
The bank had also elevated Salil Pitale and Chirag Negandhi as Joint Managing Directors and Co-Chief Executive Officer.
Both are currently Co-Head of Investment Banking at Axis Capital since 2016.
Pitale has been with Axis Capital and Axis Bank since 1999, while, Negandhi has been associated with Axis Capital since 2005.

The Indian government appoints Lalit Kumar Chandel as its nominee on private lender ICICI Bank's board.
He is going to replace Lok Ranjan.
Chandel, a 1995-batch Indian Economic Service (IES) officer, currently serves as an Economic Adviser in the Department of Financial Services of the Finance Ministry.

Padma Shri awardee Piyush Pandey has been appointed as the Global Chief Creative Officer of WPP-owned creative agency Ogilvy.
He will also retain his responsibilities of Executive Chairman and Creative Director of Ogilvy South Asia.
Advertising veterans Piyush Pandey of Ogilvy and Prasoon Pandey of Corcoise Films became the recipients of the Lion of St Mark, the highest honour that Cannes International gives for creativity.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Indian-origin Shamila Batohi as the country prosecutor.

Former Indian diplomat Preeti Saran elected to UN’s socio-economic, cultural panel
Former senior Indian diplomat Preeti Saran has been elected to the Asia Pacific seat on the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) of the UN for 4 years by the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Saran has been appointed as a member to the 18-member committee of experts that monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
She would replace 3 time elected former Indian diplomat, Chandrashekhar Dasgupta.
Prior to this, she had retired as the External Affairs Ministry Secretary (East).

ACC led by Pm Modi appointed Krishnamurthy Subramanian as new Chief Economic Advisor
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by PM Narendra Modi, appointed Krishnamurthy Subramanian as Chief Economic Advisor for a period of 3 years.
He is currently serving as Associate Professor of Finance (with tenure) and Executive Director for the Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business, a top business school in India.
He would replace Arvind Subramanian who resigned from the post

Axis Bank inducts Amitabh Chaudhry on its board
Axis Bank inducted Amitabh Chaudhry as additional director on its board.
He will replace incumbent Shikha Sharma whose fourth term has been curtailed by the RBI by nearly two-and-half years.
 The board also gave its nod for the reappointment of Samir Barua, Som Mittal and Rohit Bhagat as independent directors.
Amitabh Chaudhry, the former MD and CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, was in September named the MD and CEO of Axis Bank for a period of three years, with effect from January 1, 2019.

James Quincey to Succeed Muhtar Kent as Chairman of The Coca-Cola Company
James Quincey was elected as the 14th chairman of the Coca-Cola Company, succeeding Muhtar Kent, who plans to retire in April after a Coca-Cola system career that started in 1978.
Quincey, currently serves as president and CEO of the Coca-Cola Company
Brian Smith will become president and chief operating officer of the company on Jan. 1, 2019.
The company also announced that Sam Nunn, the Coca-Cola director, will also retire and Maria Elena “Mel” Lagomasino, will succeed Nunn as an independent director.

The 175th meeting of the OPEC conference commenced in Vienna, Austria.
In this conference Qatar withdrew its OPEC membership with effect from January 1, 2019.
Manuel Salvador Quevedo Fernandez, People’s Minister of Petroleum of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, was elected as the President of the conference for 1 year with effect from January 1, 2019.

Wasim Khan appoints as PCB’s Managing Director
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Wasim Khan, CEO of Leicenstershire County Cricket Club as the Managing Director of PCB.
The former Warwickshire batsman, Wasim Khan who had played 58 first-class matches in his professional career will leave his role as CEO of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and will join PCB in February 2019.

RBI appoints Shaktikanta Das as New Governor
The government has appointed Shaktikanta Das as the new RBI governor, a day after Urjit Patel resigned as RBI Governor. He is the 25th Governor  RBI.
A former economic affairs secretary from 2015 to 2017, Das worked closely with the central bank.
He is currently a member of the Finance Commission of India, and the government’s representative at the Group of 20 summits.

SWIFT India ropes in former SBI chief Arundhati Bhattacharya as board Chairman
Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) India appointed former SBI chief Arundhati Bhattacharya as the new Chairman of its board. She will succeed former banker M.V. Nair
Earlier Arundhati Bhattacharya was designated as an independent additional director on the board of Reliance Industries Ltd.
She also had been elected as an advisor in the private equity firm ChrysCapital Advisors.

Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi appointed as Vice-Chair of UN Panel of Auditors till 2020
The panel is currently chaired by the Comptroller and Auditor General of the UK and consists of External Auditors of the United Nations and its agencies.
Presently, the panel consists of 11 countries - India, Germany, Chile, Canada, France, Italy, Philippines, Ghana, Indonesia, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
The panel also elected the Comptroller and Auditor General of the UK as Chair of the Panel for another term (2019).
The next meeting of the panel will be held in Bonn, Germany in November-December 2019

Brijendra Pal Singh Appointed New FTII Chairman

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) was established by amending Article 338 and inserting a new Article 338A in the Constitution through the Constitution (89th Amendment) Act, 2003.

Ranil Wickremesinghe sworn in as PM of Sri Lanka after resignation of Mahinda Rajapaksa
Sri Lanka’s ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn into office again, two months after being removed by the President Maithripala Sirisena, thus bringing an end to weeks-long political crisis in the country.
Mr. Wickremsinghe was removed as Prime minister and was replaced by Mahinda Rajapaksa who resigned after failing to garner majority in Parliament.

Sanitary ware firm HSIL (Hindustan Sanitary ware and Industries Ltd)’s CMD Sandip Somany has been elected as the new President of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) for the year 2018-19 during its 91st annual general meeting.
Sangita Reddy, a current Joint Managing Director Apollo Hospitals has been elevated as FICCI Senior Vice President.

CBI's Joint Director M. Nageswara Rao, who is currently the interim CBI Director, was promoted to the rank of Additional Director by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Before being appointed interim chief, Rao was No. 3 in the pecking order and was handling the Chandigarh branch along with certain branches in South India.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved the appointment of Pranab Kumar Das as the new Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)
Das, who is currently a Special Secretary and Member (Customs) at CBIC, will succeed S. Ramesh.
Pranab Kumar Das is a 1983 batch IRS Officer of Customs & Central Excise Cadre and was appointed as Member in the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) in 2017.
The CBIC is headed by the Chairman and consists of six members, who overlook various areas such as customs, central excise, service tax, Goods and Services Tax (GST), administration and budget, among other.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) cleared the name of Arti Chhabra Srivastava as the first full-time Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of SEBI for an initial period of 3 years.
She is a 1990-batch Indian Ordinance Factory Services officer, and her appointment was approved by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
CVOs are considered an extended hand of the CVC, which is tasked with detecting graft by officials holding public office.

Former India opener WV Raman has been appointed the new coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. He played 11 Tests and 27 ODIs.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary General, Rajeev Mehta has been elected the President of South Asian Fencing Body for a period of four years after the meeting of South Asian Fencing Federation (SAFF) at Hyderabad.
Rajeev Mehta is also the President of Fencing Association of India (FAI).
The Game of fencing has been included in the list of events for the South Asian games to be held in 2019 August in Nepal.

Trump Replaces Defence Head Mattis With Deputy Patrick Shanahan
US President Donald Trump announced that he would replace Defence Secretary Jim Mattis with his deputy Patrick Shanahan as acting Pentagon chief.
Shanahan will assume charge of Acting Secretary of Defense from 1 January, 2019.
Mattis resigned in protest after Trump announced the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria over the strong objections of Mattis and others on the national security team.

BVP Rao elected as president of Archery Association of India
BVP Rao was elected as the President of Archery Association of India (AAI), the election was held under the Supervision of former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi.
Maha Singh was elected as secretary of Archery Association of India.
DK Vidyarthi was elected as the treasurer.
Sunil Sharma was elected as senior vice-president.
Rajendra Singh Tomar and Purnima Mahato will be the vice presidents.
BVP Rao earlier served as vice president of the archery association of the northeastern state.
He was also earlier associated with Sports Authority of India in various capacities.

Ex-IES Officer Sangeeta Verma appointed as third CCI Member: CCI Chairperson
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) announced the appointment of Sangeeta Verma as its member in its 4-member council including the chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta.
Verma is a former Indian Economic Services (IES) officer and had been appointed for a period of 5 years.
The other two members of the council are Augustine Peter and UC Nahta.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI): Established in 2003 to replace the erstwhile Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission.

Air Marshal Rajeev Sachdeva takes over as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff
The Defense Ministry appointed Air Marshal Rajeev Sachdeva who had served in three out of four wings of Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) headquarters as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).
He has also been an Air Force examiner and has also commanded a frontline transport squadron, a transport base and the college of Defence Management.
He was the Senior Air Staff Officer at Southern Air Command headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram prior to his present appointment.

Sheikh Hasina wins 3rd consecutive term as Prime Minister of Bangladesh
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's alliance won Bangladesh's election with a thumping majority, the country's Election Commission announced.

The government has appointed Sudhir Bhargava as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), along with four information commissioners.

President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the appointment of former IFS officer Yashwardhan Kumar Sinha, former IRS officer Vanaja N Sarna, former IAS Neeraj Kumar Gupta and former Law Secretary Suresh Chandra as Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission.
