Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Elected Mexico's President
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won Mexico’s presidency with the widest margin in a presidential election since the 1980s.
He won 30 points ahead of his nearest rival. He replaced President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Vijay Srinivas named Director & General Manager of United India Insurance
City-based United India Insurance Company announced the appointment of K.B. Vijay Srinivas as its Director and General Manager.
Prior to taking up the new role, he was serving National Insurance Company Ltd as its Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager.
Srinivas, in his 37 years of service, has also contributed articles in journals of insurance, tax and other subjects.

Saraswati Prasad assumes charge as SAIL CMD
Senior bureaucrat Saraswati Prasad has taken over the additional charge as chairman and managing director of steel PSU SAIL.
Saraswati Prasad, Special Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel, has taken over the additional charge of the post of Chairman and MD of SAIL.

P.K. Shrivastava new director general of Ordnance Factory Board
P.K. Shrivastava took over the reins of the Ordnance Factory Board as its new director general and chairman of the Ordnance Factory Board.
He was also in-charge of OFB's Armoured Vehicles headquarters at Avadi in Chennai.
Srivistava joined Indian Ordnance Factories' Service in 1982 and in a career spanning 36 years; he has been with Ammunition Factory Khadki, Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, Ordnance Factory Varangaon, Ordnance Factory Khamaria, Armoured Vehicles headquarters and at OFB headquarters as member of personnel division.

Major General Jose Eladio Alcain of Uruguay will be Head UN Military Observer Group in India, Pakistan
Major General Jos Eladio Alcain of Uruguay will be Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He will succeed Major General Per Gustaf Lodin of Sweden, who will complete his two-year assignment this month.
Alcain has had a distinguished career with the Uruguayan Army since 1977. Most recently, he held the position of Director of the National Health Service of the Armed Forces.

Vishwas Patel appointed Payments Council of India Chairman
Payments Council of India (PCI), an apex body representing companies in payments and settlement system, has a new Chairman in Vishwas Patel.
Patel, who is Director at Infibeam Avenues, has been associated with PCI since its inception in 2013 and was serving as the co-Chairman of PCI. He takes over from Naveen Surya, who has been elevated to the post of Chairman Emeritus.
PCI has also announced the appointment of Loney Antony, Managing Director, Hitachi Payment Services, as its new co-Chairman.

Donald Trump appoints Indian-American attorney Uttam Dhillon as head of Drug Enforcement Agency
Uttam Dhillon, an Indian-American top White House lawyer, has been appointed as the new head of the crucial Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) that combats the smuggling and use of narcotics in the US.
Dhillon replaces Robert Patterson, who has retired after 30 years of service.
Dhillon, who till recently worked in the White House as Deputy Counsel and Deputy Assistant to President Donald Trump, took up the role of Acting Director of the DEA.

Journalist Rajat Sharma is new DDCA president
Renowned journalist Rajat Sharma was elected as the President of Delhi & District Cricket Association after polling 54.40 percent of the total votes cast.
Sharma surpassed former World Cup winning Indian cricketer Madan Lal by 517 votes to register his win. Sharma’s group swept all the 12 seats in the elections. The journalist got a total of 1531 votes while former Test cricketer Lal could only poll 1004 votes, while advocate Vikas Singh only managed to get 232 votes.

Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel appointed NGT chairperson
Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel assumed charge as chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Justice Goel has been appointed for five years. He is the third chairperson in the NGT since its inception in 2010.
Justice Goel was appointed Supreme Court judge in July 2014. The post of NGT chairperson was lying vacant for more than six months, since Justice Swatanter Kumar’s retirement on December 20 last year. After Justice Kumar’s retirement, Justice Umesh Dattatraya Salvi was made acting chairperson. He retired on February 13. After him, Justice Jawad Rahim was appointed acting chairperson.

Dipika Pallikal to represent Asia in CGF AAC
Squash player Dipika Pallikal has been appointed as Asia’s representative in the prestigious Athletes Advisory Commission of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
The CGF Athletes Advisory Commission was proposed in August 2017 and had reached out to all 71 member Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) to nominate an athlete with the potential to serve the Athletes Commission. Each continent is represented by one athlete in CGFAAC.
The Indian Olympic Association/ CGA India had proposed the name of Dipika to represent Asia in the CGFAAC.

UK PM Theresa May appoints Jeremy Hunt as new foreign minister
British Prime Minister Theresa May appointed Jeremy Hunt as foreign minister after predecessor Boris Johnson resigned in protest at the government’s plans for a close trading relationship with the European Union.
The appointment of Hunt, the long-serving health minister, sees a close May ally replace the maverick Johnson, and could alter the Brexit balance of May’s top ministerial team.

Prof. Sandeep Sancheti takes charge as President of AIU
Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has assumed charge as the 97th President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
Founded in 1925 and initially known as the Inter-University Board of India, the AIU has currently more than 720 members represented by Vice Chancellors. Seen as the representative of all Universities of India, the AIU facilitates coordination and mutual consultation among Universities as well as acting as a liaison with Central and State governments.
The AIU, besides promoting academic excellence nationally and internationally is also a body that is very much involved in cultural and sporting activities in higher education domain.

Ex-PNB executive T. Latha appointed new MD & CEO of Dhanlaxmi Bank
Dhanlaxmi Bank Limited has appointed T. Latha as the Managing Director & CEO. She has taken over from G Sreeram, who has retired, on completion of his tenure.Her appointment will be for a period of three years w.e.f July 2, 2018.
Latha has 35 years of banking experience with Punjab National Bank across a host of roles and responsibilities including Branch Management, Regional Management and National Level Credit Management handling a portfolio of around Rs 400 billion.

Ms. Nina Tshering La has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Democratoc Republic of Congo.
Ms. Nina Tshering La, presently Deputy Chief of Mission, Hanoi has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

D.C. Raina appointed J&K advocate general
Governor N.N. Vohra appointed D.C. Raina as the advocate general of Jammu and Kashmir.
Raina has held the same post in 2016 when Governor's rule was imposed in the state following the demise of then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and subsequent stalemate between the PDP and BJP over government formation.
The Governor also accorded sanction to the acceptance of resignation of Jehangir Iqbal Ganaie, who was serving as the advocate general during the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state.

T.C.A. Raghavan named as Director General of Indian Council of World Affairs
Former career diplomat T.C.A. Raghavan has been appointed as the new Director General and ex-officio Member-Secretary of the Indian Council of World Affairs.
The appointment was made by Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is the President of ICWA on the basis of a decision taken at the meetings of the Governing Body and the Governing Council of the ICWA.
Dr. Raghavan, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1982 batch, has served as India's High Commissioner to Islamabad and Singapore. He has also served in Indian missions in London, Thimphu and Kuwait.

Amitabh Malhotra appointed as the Head of Investment Banking, HSBC India
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has appointed Amitabh Malhotra as the Head of Investment Banking for HSBC India. In his role, Amitabh will lead the Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) business.
Prior to HSBC, Amitabh worked at Rothschild India, where he was the co-head and managing director of the Global Investment Bank, based in Mumbai. He has also worked with KPMG and JP Morgan.

Bhushan Steel appoints TV Narendran as chairman
Bhushan Steel, acquired by Tata Steel under corporate resolution process, its board of directors has approved the appointment of TV Narendran as chairman and non-executive additional director of the company. Narendran, CEO and MD of Tata Steel, has more than 30 years of experience in metal and mining industry.
A new management team has been put into place at Bhushan Steel Ltd after it was acquired by Tata Steel Ltd through India's new insolvency and bankruptcy process.

Brij Bhushan Saran Singh to be named India's Chef de Mission at Asian Games
Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Saran Singh is set to be named the Chef de Mission of the Asian Games-bound Indian contingent.
The four deputy Chefs de Mission set to be be appointed are B.S. Kushwaha (former secretary of Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Federation), R.K. Sacheti (Executive Director of Boxing Federation of India, D.K. Singh (Uttarakhand Olympic Association) and Colonel R.K. Swain (Secretary of Equestrian Federation of India).
The IOA, which had announced a 524-member contingent of athletes for the August 18-September 2 Asian Games in Indonesia, is expected to issue a revised list after the court verdict in sailing and handball.

Govt renews appointment of Prof Sahasrabudhe as AICTE chairman
The central government has renewed the appointment of Prof D Sahasrabudhe as the chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved renewal of appointment of Sahasrabudhe till he attains the age of 65 years.
Prof Sahasrabudhe has in his illustrious career of over 30 years held several important academic, research and administrative positions.

Arman Ali takes charge of national disabled people's organisation NCPEDP
The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) announced the appointment of Arman Ali as its executive director.
He would assume charge from October 1. Disability rights activist Javed Abidi, who was the director of the NCPEDP, passed away.
Ali's appointment was announced during a National Disability Consultation on the Rights of Persons with Disability which saw participation of 23 states and 2 Union territories.

Analjit Singh appointed as Non-executive Chairman on board of Max Financial Services Ltd
Analjit Singh is the sponsor and principal shareholder of Max Financial Services, Max India and MVIL. He replaces Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai.
Max Financial Services is the listed holding company for Max Life Insurance Company and was formed soon after the demerger of Max India Limited. That demerger resulted in the creation of three independent listed entities, namely, Max Financial Services, Max India Limited and Max Ventures & Industries Limited, collectively comprising the Max Group.

Pakistan gets its first woman chief justice of high court
Justice Tahira Safdar was nominated as the first woman chief justice of a Pakistani high court.
She will take charge of her new role following the retirement of incumbent Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai on August 31. In 1982, Safdar became the first woman civil judge in Balochistan.

Surendra Rosha named HSBC India CEO
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) announced the appointment of Surendra Rosha as Chief Executive Officer for HSBC India.
Rosha, who is currently HSBC’s Head of Financial Institutions Group (FIG) for Asia-Pacific, has 27 years of experience in financial services sector. He began his career in financial services when he joined HSBC’s India operations in 1991.
