Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) approved handing over of additional charge of post of Director General Narcotics Control Bureau to Director General of Civil Aviation Security (DG CAS) Rakesh Asthana. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is a nodal intelligence and drug law enforcement agency of the country. It was established in 1986 and is headquartered in New Delhi. It was founded to enable full implementation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and fight its violation by Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988.It functions under the aegis of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and is responsible for fighting drug trafficking and abuse of illegal substances.

Senior IAS officer Rajiv Kumar, a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Jharkhand cadre, will be the new Finance Secretary. The approval was given by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Mr. Rajiv Kumar is presently serving as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed IPS Officer VK Johri as new Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF), which is country’s largest border guarding force with a present strength of about 2.5 lakh personnel. It is one of 7 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India and was raised in wake of 1965 War on 1 December 1965. Being a primary border defence organisation of India, it is tasked to secure two of India’s most and sensitive fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Two other border guarding forces in country are- Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for China Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for Nepal and Bhutan.

Indian Army, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane has been appointed as next vice-chief of armed force; he succeeds Lt. Gen D. Anbu who is set to retire on 31 August 2019.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde is been confirmed as new head of European Central bank (ECB). Her appointment would make her 1st woman to lead powerful institution of ECB. She would succeed Mario Draghi, whose term ends on 31 October 2019. The 63 years old French, was the 1st woman to head International Monetary Fund (IMF) when she took the job in 2011.
