Shri Ajay Narayan Jha joined the 15th Finance Commission as its Member in place of Shri Shaktikanta Das.
A 1982 batch IAS officer of Manipur cadre, he was the Finance Secretary to the Government of India and served as Secretary to the 14th Finance Commission, headed by former RBI Governor, Shri Y.V. Reddy.
The 15th Finance Commission was constituted by a Presidential Order in November 2017 under the Chairmanship of Shri N.K. Singh to decide the formula for devolution of revenue between Centre and States.
President constitutes a finance commission every five years or earlier under article 280 of Indian constitution. The constitutional body decides the division of revenue between the centre and the states and also among the states themselves.

Ravneet Gill took charge as MD & CEO of YES Bank for a three-year term.
A career banker with a long innings at Deutsche Bank, Gill comes in place of Rana Kapoor, the bank’s co-promoter and former MD and CEO.
Mr. Gill succeeds Rana Kapoor, the co-founder of the bank, whose term ended on January 31, 2019.
Mr. Ajai Kumar, one of the board members, was appointed as the interim CEO after Mr. Kapoor’s term ended. Yes Bank decided to search for a new chief executive after the RBI declined to extend Mr. Kapoor’s tenure beyond January 31, 2019, though the board had endorsed a three-year extension.

Pranay Kumar Verma appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Verma, a 1994 cadre Indian Foreign Services officer, is presently serving as the JointSecretary at Ministry of External Affairs.

Bhagwan Lal Sahni, a BJP leader from Bihar's Muzaffarpur, has assumed charge as the chairman of the newly constituted National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
The NCBC was constitutionally recognized by Parliament in 2017, after repealing the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993.
National Commission for Backward Classes is a Constitutional body set up through the 123rd constitutional amendment bill 2018 and 102nd amendment act under the provisions of Article 338B of Indian Constitution. The commission consists of one chairman and five Members with the term of three years.
National Commission for Backward classes is the successor of the National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (NCSEBC)

Randhir Singh appointed as coordination committee chairman of 2022 Asian Games
Veteran Indian sports administrator Randhir Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the Coordination Committee of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games by the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The 72-year-old Randhir, a five-time Olympian shooter, is currently an Honorary Life Vice-President of the OCA. He had served as Secretary General of the OCA for 24 years from 1991 to 2015.

Sheikh Ahmad was re-elected as the President of OCA
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah has been re-elected as the president of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for an eighth term despite being embroiled in a forgery case brought by Swiss investigators.
The long-serving Kuwaiti, a powerful ally of International Olympic Committee (IOC) head Thomas Bach, was re-elected unanimously at the OCA general assembly in Bangkok.
An IOC member since 1992, Sheikh Ahmad stepped down from his roles in the global Olympic body in November, less than two weeks after the Public Prosecutor of Geneva submitted a forgery accusation to a criminal court against the Kuwaiti and four others.

Sanjeev Ranjan has been named as secretary at Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)
Sanjeev Ranjan, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Tripura cadre, is at present the chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NAHAI).
Ranjan will take over as MoRTH secretary with effect from April 1, 2019 upon superannuation of Yudhvir Singh Malik by the end of this month.
NagendraNathSinha will replace Ranjan as the new National Highways Authority of India chief.
P. Venkata Ramesh Babu appointed as the Director General of National Archives of India
P. Venkata Ramesh Babu is an IAS officer from the 1985 batch and is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Rural Electrification Corporation Limited.
The National Archives of India comes under the Ministry of Culture.

Kaja Kallas, the leader of the Reform Party has been appointed as the first female Prime Minister of Estonia
In parliamentary electionheldin Estonia, the center-right Reform party won 29.4% of the vote, setting up its leader KajaKallas to become the first female prime minister of the Baltic country, so long as she can form a coalition government.

Soumya Swaminathan who is currently a Deputy Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has been appointed as the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation (WHO)
As part of the reforms at the World Health Organisation (WHO), Soumya Swaminathan was promoted from the position of Deputy Director-General to Chief Scientist.
The position of the Chief Scientist was created to strengthen the organisation’s core scientific work and ensure the quality and consistency of its norms and standards.
She will oversee the digital work and help the department in assessing digital technologies, and help countries in deciding as to how to prioritise, integrate and regulate them.

Ausaf Sayeed appointed as the new Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia
Dr. Ausaf Sayeed is the present High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Seychelles, now he has been appointed as the next ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Mohammad Shtayyeh named as Palestinian PM
Mohammad Shtayyeh has been named as Palestinian Prime Minister by President of Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. A member of the West Bank's dominant Fatah party is a long time ally of Abbas.
The announcement comes six weeks after Rami al-Hamdallah tendered his resignation from the post and of his unity government to President Mahmoud Abbas, underscoring the failure of Hamas and Fatah to implement a power-sharing deal.

Ashu Khullar named as Citi India CEO
Ashu Khullar, currently the head of Asia Pacific Capital Markets Origination at Citigroup Inc., has been named CEO of Citi India, with effect from April 1.
The appointment is subject to Reserve Bank of India’s approval.
He will replace Pramit Jhaveri, who has had a nine-year stint as Citi India CEO.

Baijayant Panda appointed as national vice president and spokesperson of BJP
Party chief Amit Shah made the appointment, which will be effective immediately.
Baijayant Panda joined the BJP on March 4, nine months after he resigned from the Biju Janata Dal.
In January last year, BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had suspended Panda from the party on disciplinary grounds. The BJD had claimed that Panda was involved in anti-party activity, an allegation denied by the former MP.

Axis Bank names Rakesh Makhija as new Non-Executive Part-Time Chairman for a period of three years
Rakesh Makhija, who is the Chairman of SKF India, will take over from current Axis Bank Chairman Sanjiv Mishra, when his term comes to an end on July 17.
He has been appointed on the basis of recommendations from Nomination and Remuneration Committee of Directors and the board of directors of the bank.
His appointment is subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India and the bank’s shareholders.

A bench of Justices S A Bobde and AM Spare was informed by Narasimha that former apex court judge Justice (Retd.) DK Jain has assumed charge as the ombudsman of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It restrained all other courts in India from entertaining for proceeding with any matter pertaining to BCCI and state cricket associations.

Fabio Cannavaro, who led Italy to the World Cup triumph in 2006, has been named as China's new head coach.
The 45-year-old Italian, who played for clubs like Parma, Real Madrid and Juventus, will replace Marcello Lippi.
Lippi is the present head coach of china’s team and he will be quit after China's quarter-final exit at the Asian Cup in January, will stay on as an advisor.

Former Supreme Court judge Pinaki Chandra Ghose appointed as India's 1st Lokpal
According to a communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed the Chairman of the Lokpal along with other members of the anti-corruption watchdog.
The Lokpal will have four judicial and four non-judicial members. Former Chief Justices - Dilip B. Bhosale, Pradip Kumar Mohanty, and Abhilasha Kumari and sitting Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Ajay Kumar Tripathi have been appointed as judicial members.
The non-judicial members are: former first woman Chief of Sashastra Seema Bal Archana Ramasundaram, ex-Maharashtra Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar Jain, former IRS officer Mahender Singh and ex-IAS officer Indrajeet Prasad Gautam.
The Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, which envisages appointment of a Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states to look into cases of corruption against certain categories of public servants, was passed in 2013.

Pramod Sawant, former Speaker of the Goa legislative Assembly and BJP MLA from Sankhelim in north Goa, was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa, succeeding Manohar Parrikar.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhavan by Governor Mridula Sinha.

Rear Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, VSM (Vishisht Seva Medal) assumes Charge as Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) at Kochi
Rear Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 87, and is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla at Pune.
He has commanded five frontline ships of the Indian Navy including the missile vessels, INS Vidyut and INS Vinash; the missile corvette, INS Kulish; the guided missile destroyer, INS Mysore; and the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
Prior to assuming charge as FOST, the Admiral was the Chief Staff Officer (Training) at Headquarters Southern Naval Command and played a key role in the conduct of all training in the Indian Navy.
He will succeed Rear Admiral Sanjay J Singh, who has been appointed as Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet (FOCWF).

Former Hockey Captain Sardar Singh appointed in Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) standing committee
A total of 13 Indian Olympic Association (IOA) members, including former India hockey captain Sardar Singh, have been named in various Standing Committees of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) at its 38th General Assembly in Bangkok.
Sardar has been elected in the athletes standing committee, while IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta was named in the culture standing committee.
Hockey India secretary general Mohd Mustaque Ahmad is in the media standing committee, while Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwala and Lalit Bhanot have been elected in the sports for environment and sports standing committees respectively.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sworn in as new President of Kazakhstan
He has replaced Nursultan Nazarbayev, who resigned after almost 30-year rule.
Tokayev who assumed the leadership of the Central Asian country as President of the Senate took the oath in a plenary session of both Houses of Parliament.
According to the Kazakh Constitution, Tokayev will serve as head of state until April 2020, when Nazarbayev's term was due to end.

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh will take over as Next Chief of Naval Staff
The Government have appointed Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, presently Flag Officer Commander-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Eastern Naval Command as next Chief of the Naval Staff with effect from May 31, 2019.
The present Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba retires on the same day.
He is from Jalandhar in Punjab. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980 and after two years he earned his wings as a helicopter pilot.
He has been honoured with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Jan 1987 and is an Anti-Submarine Warfare specialist.
His notable sea appointments include Executive Officer of missile corvette INS Kirpan and missile destroyer INS Mysore and command of missile corvette INS Kora, missile frigate INS Shivalik and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
The Flag Officer is a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for distinguished service.

Basketball Federation of India appoints Serbian Veselin Matic as coach of Indian men’s team
The Basketball Federation of India roped in Veselin Matic as the new head coach of the Indian men’s basketball team.
Zoran Visic, who was earlier in charge of both the men’s and women’s national sides, will continue with the women’s team.
He led Iran to their Asian Championship title in 2009 which they won after beating China and also led to their first ever World Championship qualification in 2010.

Shambhu S. Kumaran appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco
Shri Shambhu S. Kumaran (IFS: 1995), presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco.
He will succeed Dr. Kheya Bhattacharya.

Karur Vysya Bank appoints N.S. Srinath as non-executive chairman for a period of 3 years
N.S. Srinath had earlier served as an executive director on the board of Bank of Baroda and superannuated on May 31, 2012.
Srinath is graduated in Science & Law and a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers. He is also a certificate holder in Industrial Finance.
The appointment is subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India and the Shareholders of the Bank.

Azali Assoumani was re-elected as Comoros President with over 60% of votes
According to results published by the electoral commission of the Indian Ocean archipelago, Comoros President Azali Assoumani was re-elected.
Azali, who first took office in 2016, was way ahead of his closest rival Mahamoudou Ahamada, who garnered only 14.62 percent of the ballots cast.
The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast, in the warm Indian Ocean waters of the Mozambique Channel.

8 Members of Lokpal take oath of office
The Chairperson of the anti corruption ombudsman Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose administered the oath of office to them.
Besides Chairperson, the President Ram Nath Kovind had appointed four judicial members and four Non-Judicial members as Lokpal.
Former Chief Justices - Dilip B. Bhosale, Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Abhilasha Kumari and sitting Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Ajay Kumar Tripathi are the judicial members who took the oath.
The non-judicial members are former first woman Chief of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Archana Ramasundaram, ex-Maharashtra Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar Jain, former IRS officer Mahender Singh and ex-IAS officer Indrajeet Prasad Gautam.

Manohar Ajgaonkar appointed as deputy chief minister of Goa days after he quit MGP and joined BJP
The post got vacant after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant sacked Sudin Dhavalikar and claimed that the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA had failed to abide by the government’s common minimum programme.
Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai is the other deputy chief minister.
Dipak Pauskar was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister by Governor Mridula Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula.

Maruti Suzuki board re-appoints Kenichi Ayukawa as MD and CEO for 3 years with effective from April 1, 2019
This would be Kenichi Ayukawa's third three-year term as MD and CEO of Maruti. Ayukawa, who earlier served in the US, Japan and Pakistan, was appointed on March 15, 2013.
During his regime, the auto major introduced many new models, including the sedan Ciaz, premium hatchback Baleno and SUV Vitara Brezza.
The company is also gearing up to launch its first electric car in India by 2020, besides working on hybrid and premium category vehicles.

Supreme Court-appointed BCCI Ombudsman Justice D.K. Jain (retd) will now serve as the Ethics Officer of the Indian cricket board on an ad-hoc basis
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), provisions in its constitution require an Ethics Officer to be appointed to determine and decide issues related to conflict of interest.
Justice D.K. Jain (retd.), shall discharge the functions of the BCCI Ethics Officer, in addition to his role as the BCCI Ombudsman, as an ad hoc arrangement till such time that an Ethics Officer is appointed.

Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Nao Sena Medal is a graduate of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 July 85.
The Flag Officer is a specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare and has held important assignments both afloat and ashore.
He commanded the National Coast Guard, Mauritius for two years (2003 – 05) and was also the Commandant, Naval Academy and Commanding Officer of INS Mandovi.

Abhay Thakur concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Benin
Shri Abhay Thakur, (IFS: 1992) presently High Commissioner of India to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Benin, with residence in Abuja.
India does not have a Resident Diplomatic Mission in Benin.

Hitachi Payments appoints Rustom Irani as managing director
Rustom Irani’s role, as MD, is in addition to his responsibilities as the chief executive officer (CEO) of cash business. Earlier to this, Loney Antony led Hitachi Payments as the MD from its inception.
Rustom served as the Chief Operations Officer of Hitachi Payment Services, before assuming the role of the CEO of the company’s Cash Business in April 2018.

Australia's Graham Reid Set to be Appointed as India's New Men's Hockey Coach
Australian Graham Reid is set to be named the Indian men's hockey team chief coach till the 2022 World Cup after the national federation and the Sports Authority of India gave their go ahead to fill the position lying vacant for nearly three months.
He was Australia’s coach at the 2016 Rio Olympics but quit after the Kookaburras failed to finish on the podium.

Rear Admiral Suraj Berry, NM, VSM takes over the Command of Eastern Fleet, the Sword Arm of the Eastern Naval Command from Rear Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, AVSM, NM at an impressive ceremony held at the Naval Base, Visakhapatnam.
Rear Admiral Suraj Berry was commissioned on 01 January 1987 and is a specialist in Gunnery and Missile Warfare.
His Sea commands include the missile vessel INS Nirbhik, missile corvette INS Karmuk, stealth frigate INS Talwar, and the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya of which he was the commissioning Commanding Officer.
He is a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal (Meritorious Service Medal) in 2006 for the Tsunami Relief operations in Sri Lanka/ Maldives and the Nau Sena Medal (Navy Medal) in 2015.
