Gagandeep Kang
Gagandeep Kang becomes first Indian woman scientist to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRS), United Kingdom. Gagandeep Kang is a  clinician scientist, who is well known for her key role in development of Rotavac. She currently an executive director of Translational Healing Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad, which is an autonomous institute of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology . For her contributions in understanding natural history of rotavirus in 2016, she was conferred prestigious Infosys Prize in Life Sciences.

Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019
Author Rana Dasgupta received Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019,  for his novel “Solo” which is a tale of estrangement and the ultimate failure of material existence. He wrote this novel in 2010.
Rabindranath Tagore Prize is founded and launched with a vision to be a platform and a vehicle for improving and inspiring World Peace, Literature, Art and Education. 
Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize which aims to revive poetry and books that can change lives.
An amount of $10,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate will be awarded for the contribution to literature.
Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social achievement was awarded to Yohei Sasakawa, the World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen was awarded as a beacon of democracy.

Sanskrit poet from Bengaluru honoured with presidential award
Dr. Shankar Rajaraman, a well-known Bangalore-based Sanskrit poet, was recently awarded Presidential Award of 'Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman’.
This award was presented to him by the Vice-President of India, Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, in New Delhi.
'The Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman', named after sage Veda Vyasa, the illustrious author of Mahabharata, instituted by the Government of India in 2002, to honour young scholars, aged 30-45 years, in recognition of their significant contribution to classical Indian languages.
The first edition of Critics’ Choice Awards, organised by the newly formed, Film Critics Guild.
India’s first stunt woman Reshma Pathan was presented Extraordinary Achievement award by director Ramesh Sippy and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar for her contribution in movies like Sholay.
The awards, a joint venture of Film Critics Guild and Motion Content Group, aims to “uplift some of the most underrated films which are often overshadowed by commercial mammoths”.

A Malayalam film named Bhayanakam (Fear) has been awarded the best cinematography award at the 2019 Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF).
The cinematography was done by Nikihil S. Praveen.
The film had also won the best cinematography award at the 65th National Film Awards.
The film is directed by Jayaraj, portrays the visits of First World War veteran to a small village in the backwaters of Kerala’s Kuttanand as a postman during the World War-II.

Pulitzer Prize - 2019
Aretha Franklin received an honorary Pulitzer Prize for her contribution to American music and culture. Franklin, who died last summer, was the first woman to receive an honorary Pulitzer. Competitive Pulitzers were awarded to books about two other giants of American history- Frederick Douglass and Alain Locke.
“Frederick Douglass” by David W. Blight was named the best work of history. The biography prize went to Jeffrey C. Stewart’s “The New Negro- The Life of Alain Locke”.

Russia announced its decision to confer the Order of St Andrew the Apostle - the highest state decoration of the country on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
The 'Order of St Andrew the Apostle' is awarded to prominent statesmen, public figures and those working in the fields of science, culture and arts in recognition of their exceptional services in promoting prosperity and glory of Russia.
The Order was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great, in honour of Saint Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus and patron saint of Russia,
The decoration is given to Mr Modi for his exceptional services in promoting special and privileged strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and India and friendly relations between the Russian and Indian people.

Telugu poet K. Siva Reddy has been selected for the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2018.
It carries a cash purse of Rs 15 lakh, apart from a citation and a plaque.
He has been awarded for his work Pakkaki Ottigilite which was published in 2016 and is an anthology of 104 poems in blank verse. 
Saraswati Samman Award was instituted by the KK Birla Foundation in the year 1991.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu conferred President’s Certificate of Honour Awards at New Delhi
President’s Certificate of Honour and Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman Awards were conferred by the Vice President Venkaiah Naidu at New Delhi. 
The award of the Certificate of Honour was introduced in the year 1958 to honour the scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian Languages.
Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman Distinction is conferred on persons in recognition of their substantial contribution in the field of many classical languages.
Contributions of the persons in a substantial manner to Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Pali, Prakrit, Classical Odiya, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu and Classical Malayalam are recognised and awarded.

ESPN Multi-Sport awards 2018 recognised achievements across 11 categories.
Olympic silver medalist P.V. Sindhu and star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra were named as female and male sportsperson of the year in the ESPN India Multi-Sport Awards for their achievements in 2018.
Saina Nehwal, 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist shuttler, won the award for the ‘Comeback of the Year’ after bagging the bronze at the 2018 Asian Games.

Tata Steel wins the 'Global Slag Company of the Year' award at the 14th Global Slag Conference and Exhibition 2019
An award has been presented to Tata Steel for its innovative practices in development of new applications for Steel by-products.
The award was given at the 14th Global Slag Conference and Exhibition 2019, held recently in Aachen, Germany.
The conference is one of the largest global annual slag events, attended by major steelmakers, steel mill service providers & associated companies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded the prestigious Zayed Medal
President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan honoured Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the prestigious Zayed Medal.
He was honoured for boosting relations between the Emirates and India.
The 'Order of Zayed' is the highest civil decoration instituted by the UAE. It consists of a collar cantered by a medallion bearing the name 'Zayed' - the founding father of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the past,

John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award for Dr. Vikram Patel.
Vikram Patel, a psychiatrist and professor of global health at Harvard Medical School, has won the prestigious John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award.
Mr. Patel led research generating knowledge on the burden and determinants of mental health problems in low and middle-income countries.
The John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award recognizes the world’s top scientists who have made outstanding achievements in Global Health Research. Since its inception, the Global Health Award has grown
Laureates will receive a $100,000 cash honorarium and will be formally presented with their awards on October 24, 2019, at the annual Canada Gairdner Awards Gala in Toronto.

Batman Will Be First Inductee Into Comic-Con Museum's Character Hall of Fame
On his 80th Birthday, Batman will become the first Inductee of Comic-On Museum’s Character Hall of Fame, in a ceremony at 50th Annual Comic-Con International in San Diego, on 17th July 2019.
The ceremony will be accompanied by an exhibit of Batman-themed memorabilia and related props and will feature appearances by celebrities and creators whose careers have interacted with the Dark Knight across the years.
The Batman is a fictional character of DC Comics. Batman first appeared in Detective Comics No. 27, published March 30, 1939, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
