P.C. Chandra Group conferred P.C. Chandra Puraskaar 2018 to singer Asha Bhosle on the occasion of celebrating their 26th year of honoring excellence.
Asha Bhosle has been honoured with the Lifetime 26th P.C. Chandra Puraskaar 2018.
Actress Sharmila Tagore was the Chief Guest of the event. She presented the award to Asha Bhosle.
Asha Bhosle made her singing debut in 1943. She has won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
The P.C. Chandra Puraskaar honours people from various fields who have achieved great heights.
The ‘P.C. Chandra Puraskaar’ award consists of Rupees Ten lacs which is tax exempted.

President of India presents Visitor’s Awards 2018
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, hosted a one-day meet of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities of whom he is Visitor, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During the inaugural session of the meeting, he presented the Visitor’s Awards for Research in the field of Basic and Applied Science and in the field of Humanities, Arts and Social Science.
The President congratulated the winners of the Visitor’s Awards, 2018. The awards were presented to Prof. Sanjay K. Jain’s for his work on the development of a drug delivery system having the potential to make cancer treatment more effective and affordable; Prof. Ashis Kumar Mukherjee for his research on the molecular complexicity of the snake venom; Prof. Ashwani Pareek’s work on the development of a rice variety having the potential to enhance the farm productivity and income of farmers; and Prof. Pramod K. Nayar for his work in the field of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Adarsh Credit wins "Best Cooperative Society on Digital Platform" award
Adarsh Credit, India's largest credit cooperative society has added one more feather to its list of its achievements. Adarsh Credit has won "Best Co-operative Society on digital platform" award in the BFSI leadership Awards 2018.
The BFSI leadership awards were held at Hotel Eros in New Delhi.
Deepak Sharma, Zonal Manager, Gurgaon collected the award on behalf of Adarsh Credit Co-operative Society Ltd.

Nobel Literature Prize Will Not Be Awarded This Year
The Nobel Prize in literature will not be awarded this year due to sex-abuse allegations and other issues.
By the Swedish Academy, the Nobel Literature Prize 2018 will be given in 2019. The Nobel Literature Prize is postponed for the first time in 70 years.
The Swedish Academy has previously reserved the prize on seven occasions in: 1915, 1919, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1936 and 1949.
The Swedish Academy has been in stress due to the #MeToo campaign since November 2017.
The Academy has been alleged of sexual misconduct by the husband of one of its members.

Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair bags ONV Literary Prize
Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair has won this year's annual ONV Literary Prize, instituted in memory of iconic poet late ONV Kurup, for his overall contributions to Malayalam literature.
The award, comprising a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, citation and a plaque, was instituted by the ONV Cultural Academy.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would present the award to Nair, popularly known as M.T. among his admirers, at a function.
He was selected by a jury comprising critic M.M. Basheer, K. Jayakumar and Prabhavarma.

Ministry of Railways announces Awards for beautification of Station premises
In order to promote cleanliness with creativity, the Ministry of Railways had invited nominations across all Zonal Railways for stations where beautification has been done with participation of local artists.
The evaluation committee consisting of the Executive Director (Station development), Chief Commercial Manager (systems) of South Central Railway, Executive director (Tourism) and an official from the Northeast Frontier Railway set up to review 62 entries received from 11 Zonal Railways.
Balharshah and Chandrapur stations (Nagpur Division) of Central Railway have been awarded first prize for depicting the best art & refurbishing itself as the most beautiful station across Indian Railways.
Ballarshah and Chandrapur railway stations were decorated with paintings and sculptures depicting the Tadoba forest, which was welcomed by the passengers who had a feel of the rich wildlife beauty of the Tadoba Forest in the station itself.Both the stations have been awarded Rs 10 Lakhs as the prize money.

Fiji's Mahendra Chaudhry chosen for Krishna Menon Award
Mahendra Chaudhry, Fiji's Indian-origin former prime minister has been chosen to receive the V.K. Krishna Menon Award in recognition of his contribution to the Indian diaspora.
The award was announced by the director of V.K. Krishna Menon Institute Cyriac Maprayil as the institute celebrated the 122nd birth anniversary at the Nehru Centre.
Several dignitaries including Professor Philip Murphy, Director of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London and J.P. Fernandes, General Secretary of the Indian Young Men's Christian Association in London attended the function.

Spanish Star Power And Oscar Winners Get 71st Cannes Film Festival Launched In Style
The 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival got off to a strong start with the world premiere of two-time Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s familial kidnapping mystery drama Everybody Knows, with stars Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Ricardo Darin walking the fabled red-carpeted Grand Theatre Lumiere steps along with the Iran-born director.
The film itself played well an accessible melodrama centering on the kidnapping of a teen girl that leads to a series of long-held family secrets being revealed.
As some of the plot twists became known there were audible “ahs” in my section of the theater. It is a satisfying launch for Cannes, with very strong performances from its large cast.

Nisha Bhalla conferred with WEF 2018 award
Women Economic Forum is the largest global gathering of women entrepreneurs and leaders worldwide. This annual event recognises the most successful women across all fields, with guests like Nobel laureate Ouided Bouchamaoui.
Nisha Bhalla, a 46-year-old holistic coach and consultant from Mumbai was felicitated at the recently concluded Annual WEF 2018 Awards, where she also spoke about 'Economics of Goodness in Giving and Philanthropy'.
The event was held at Vivanta by Taj, Dwarka in Delhi. Nisha was presented the 'Excellent Woman of Excellence' award for her spiritual service.

Prof Muhammad Yunus conferred KISS Humanitarian Award 2018
Prof Muhammad Yunus was awarded the 11th KISS Humanitarian Award 2018 at an event, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
KIIT and KISS (Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences) president Saswati Bal and founder Achyuta Samanta presented the award to Prof Muhammad Yunus.
Prof Muhammad Yunus is the founder of Grameen Bank of Bangladesh. He is known as the Father of Microfinance. He is the second Nobel laureate to receive this award.
KISS Humanitarian Award is an international award. It is presented to someone who has contributed exceptionally to the society in fields related to social issues.

British Council awards for three Indian alumni of UK universities
Three Indian alumni of UK universities have been awarded by the British Council for their outstanding achievements and contribution to the country.
Three UK alumni in India were recognised for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their important contribution to strengthening collaborative ties between the UK and India.
The 'Professional Achievement Award' which recognises alumni, who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional field, was presented to Saumya Saxena, an alumnus of the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford
The Social Impact Award,which acknowledges alumni who have made an exceptional contribution to creating positive social change, was presented to Ruchi Shah, a post graduate of the University of the Arts London.
The Entrepreneurial Award,which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in business innovation, was presented to Sushant Desai, a post graduate from the University of Edinburgh.

Lata Mangeshkar conferred 'Swara Mauli' award
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with "Swara Mauli" title by spiritual guru Vidya Narsimha Bharati Swami at her residence in 'Prabhu Kunj'.
Her sister singer Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar were present at the occasion.

President of India Presents National Geoscience Awards
The President of India, Shri Ram NathKovind, presented the National Geoscience Awards in New Delhi.
India is one of the fastest growing major economies in the world. India’s GDP as well as larger developmental process is set to accelerate over the coming decades.
The mining and mineral sector is poised to grow as a result of this expansion of the economy. At the same time, it will also be a driver of economic expansion.
As we build more cities and houses and commercial centres, and create state-of-the-art infrastructure, use of key resources will rise. As is well known, India’s per capita consumption of many resources and commodities is still very low by global standards and there is room to grow.
This will require high-quality research initiatives for sustainable, ecologically-friendly resource generation – and meaningful investment in technological innovation in the mining sector.

Chennaiyin FC’s John Gregory wins special League Managers Association award
Chennaiyin FC head coach John Gregory was awarded a Special Achievement Award by England’s League Managers’ Association (LMA) for leading the Indian Super League (ISL) side to their second league title in the 2017/18 season.
On a night that saw Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola win the Manager of the Year award, John Gregory was presented with the special honour for becoming the first Englishman to win the franchise-based football league.

IIM Calcutta case studies win EFMD case competition awards
IIM Calcutta gets an opportunity to bask in the glory of two case studies published by the IIM Calcutta Case Research Centre that have won awards in the 2017 edition of the European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) Case Competition.
European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) is an international, not-for-profit, membership organisation of business schools and corporations, based in Belgium.
It is recognized globally as an accreditation body of EQUIS for quality of management in business schools globally. It has been organizing this competition annually for the last thirty years.

NMDC gets S&P Platts award in CSR
NMDC Limited bagged the prestigious S&P Global Platts Global Metals Award 2018 in the corporate social responsibility category.
The awards' function was held at London Grosvenor Square Marriott Hotel, UK and N Baijendra Kumar Chairman-cum-Managing Director and Sandeep Tula, Director (Personnel), NMDC received the coveted award,according to a company press release.
This is the first time since inception of this awards, an Indian Company bagged an award in this category.

Sunil Chhetri named Players’ Player at Bengaluru FC Awards Night
Bengaluru Football Club came together to celebrate another successful season, and to recognize and reward top performers at the club’s Annual Awards Night, held at the JW Marriott, in Bengaluru.
Skipper Sunil Chhetri was named top scorer for the fifth season in a row and also picked up the Players’ Player of The Year Award in a night that saw the Blues bid goodbye to coach Albert Roca, who announced his departure earlier in the day.
With 24 goals across three competitions, Chhetri claimed the top scorer award ahead of Miku, who had 20 to his name.
Nara Lokesh receives award for 'Digital Leader of the Year
Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Nara Lokesh received the "Digital Leader of the Year" award during Businessworld Digital India Summit and Awards 2018 at New Delhi.
The 'Business World' magazine has announced this award for the best utilisation of technology in governance.
Lokesh won this award for using cutting edge technology and yielding good results in Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, and Rural Water Supply departments.
The state Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply Department officials have won another award for the ultramodern tracking system for water supply program.

Continental Hospitals founder receives UK & ASIA Inspirational Business Leaders Award

71st annual Cannes Film Festival was held France
The 71 annual Canned Film Festival was held in Cannes, France.
The official festival poster of the Cannes Film Festival features Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina from Jean-Luc Godard’s 1965 film Pierrot le Fou.
Asghar Farhadi’s psychological thriller Everybody Knows, starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Ricardo Darín, opened the festival.
It was the second Spanish language film to open Cannes after Bad Education in 2016.

T.K. Ramanathan award for Prajnesh
Prajnesh Gunneswaran won the prestigious T.K. Ramanathan award for the year 2017-18 at the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) annual day function at the SDAT tennis stadium.
He received a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
Cash prizes were given to the winners and the runners-up of the Chennai City inter-club tennis leagues the Sanmar-TNTA league, the Sanmar-TNTA 45+ and 60+ Veterans’ league, and the UCAL-TNTA mixed doubles championship.

Asha Bhosle honoured with West Bengal’s highest civilian award Banga Bibhusan
Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen (retd) among others will be conferred the highest civilian award of West Bengal, the Banga Bibhushan, by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Writer Samaresh Majumdar will also be conferred the Banga Bibhushan, while footballer Subrata Bhattacharya will get Banga Bhushan.
After coming to power in 2011, Banerjee had instituted the Banga Bibhushan and Banga Bhushan awards in recognition of the services of eminent personalities from their respective fields.
The Bengal Govt instituted these awards in 2011.

Polish novelist wins Man Booker International Prize
An English translation of Polish novel “Flights”, which interweaves narratives of travel with explorations of the human body, was named as the winner of the prestigious Man Booker International Prize.
The novel by Olga Tokarczuk, translated by Jennifer Croft, won the USD 67,000 prize after coming top of a shortlist of six titles.

BRICS forum presents award to late actress Sridevi
Late veteran actress Sridevi was posthumously conferred with the BRICS Business Forum Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement in Indian Cinema.
Reena Marwah, sister of actor-producer Boney Kapoor, husband of late Sridevi, received the award and memento from Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr. Jitendra Singh and Larisa Zelentsova, President of the International Alliance of BRICS (Strategic Projects) and Representative in ECOSOC UN.

Trump awards Medal of Honor to controversial Navy SEAL
President Donald Trump inducted a new member into 'the world's most exclusive club of heroes' by awarding a Medal of Honor to a Navy SEAL who led a daring assault and rescue mission on a snowy Afghanistan mountaintop in 2002.
Trump presented the nation's most prestigious honor for selflessness on the battlefield to Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Britt K. Slabinski of Northampton, Massachusetts.

Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve received the first prize for conserving the rare wildlife resources from the National Bio-diversity Authority, at Hyderabad
Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve is a non-governmental organization. Since 2016, along with Forest Department, it has been protecting and conserving the 17 sq km area Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve.
The Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve is adjacent to the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh.

India skipper Virat Kohli has emerged as the International Cricketer of the Year at the CEAT Cricket Ratings awards.
Shikhar Dhawan has been awarded International Batsman of the Year.
New Zealand player Trent Boult named International Bowler of the Year.

Kamaljit Bawa first Indian to receive Linnean Medal
Indian botanist Kamaljit S. Bawa, president of Bengaluru-based non-profit Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), received the prestigious Linnean Medal in Botany from the Linnean Society of London.
Dr. Bawa is the first Indian to win the award ever since it was first constituted in 1888.

Kerala cartoonist wins international award
Kerala cartoonist Thomas Antony has won an international award, in the best caricature category.
Antony, currently working as Executive Artist of Malayalam daily 'Metro Vaartha', is among the nine winners at the 13th edition of the World Press Cartoon awards, instituted by an organisation based in Lisbon, Portugal.
The awards are given to the best works published in 2017 in newspapers and magazines from around the world.

Yuvraj Singh Awarded 'Most Inspiring Icon Of The Year For Social Welfare'
Indian star cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been awarded the 'most inspiring icon of the year for Social Welfare" award by the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) for his exemplary contribution in the field of social welfare.
Yuvraj, who was a member of India's 2011 World Cup winning squad, was diagnosed with cancer (mediastinal seminoma) shortly after the World Cup.
Post his diagnosis, Yuvraj opened his foundation 'YouWeCan' that focuses on creating cancer awareness and helping educate the cancer survivor’s kids.

HDFC Bank Recognized for Best Practices in Payment Security at Visa Summit
HDFC Bank has once again been recognized with the Champion Security Award at the 14th Visa Asia Pacific Security Summit.

Kailash Satyarthi, ISRO chief get 'Santokbaa Humanitarian' award
President Ram Nath Kovind presented the 'Santokbaa Humanitarian Award' to two noted personalities.
Child rights activist and Noble Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and space scientist A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), were given 'Santokbaa Humanitarian Award' in the presence of the Gujarat Governor, O.P. Kohli, and Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani.
The award, instituted by Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundaton (SRKKF) and led by diamond baron Govind Dholakia, includes a trophy and a prize money of Rs 1 crore each to the awardees.

Kendrick Lamar Wins Pulitzer Prize for Music
Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his album, DAMN. Becoming the first non-classical or jazz artist to receive the honor.
DAMN. is Lamar's fourth studio album, the latest in a series of acclaimed and sonically eclectic records. The LP, which has reached double-platinum sales status, was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Rap Album at this year's ceremony.
