Typhoon Fitow slammed into Southeastern China on 7th October 2013 with powerful winds and heavy rains. The tropical cyclone Fitow struck Fuding city of Fujian province with winds of up to 151 kilometers (94 miles) an hour.

Ireland announced that it would become the first member of the Euro zone, to exit an International bail -out programme. With this it will borrow the money it needs, from the financial markets rather than relying on the loans. It was granted by Euro zone agencies and the IMF.
The fourth annual meeting of the India-US Economic and Financial Partnership was held at the IMF headquarters in Washington DC. During the meeting, India and the US agreed to further strengthen bilateral economic ties and work towards a greater understanding of investment related issues.

Iran and P5+1 were agreed on first time to hold talks on Iran’s nuclear programme. Washington and Tehran were upbeat after Iran agreed to hold fresh nuclear talks with world powers next month and made a "breakthrough" proposal to allow spot checks on its nuclear sites.
The P5+1 refers to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely United States, Russia, China, United Kingdom, and France, plus Germany. P5+1 is sometimes referred to as the E3+3 by European countries.


Chad, Chile, Lithuania, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia elected to seats as non-permanent members by the United Nations Security Council in the 15-member Council.

* UNSC consist of 15 members, 5-permanent and 10-non-permanent. Saudi Arabia was one of the countries elected by the UN’s General Assembly to serve a two-year term as a non-permanent member on the 15-member Security Council. Other elected 5 members are Rwanda, Luxembourg, Argentina, Australia, and South Korea.

India and Bangladesh inked an agreement for enhanced trade facilitation and for combating evasion of duties and taxes.
* The agreement was signed during the India-Bangladesh Joint Group of Customs meet in Dhaka.The agreement was signed by India`s Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose and M Ghulam Hussain, Chairman of the Bangladesh National Board of Revenue.
* This was the ninth meeting under the Secretary-level Joint Group of Customs. The next meeting will take place in New Delhi in 2014.

The United Nations General Assembly on the 22nd consecutive year at the United Nations adopted, a resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. By a vote of 188 in favour to two against (Israel and the United States) with three abstentions (Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau).

Sri Lankan court released 19 Indian fishermen on completion of their judicial remand period.
* The fishermen were arrested in September for engaging in allegedly illegal fishing activity near Delft islands off Jaffna.
The UN Security Council stressing the need for reform of, India has said expansion in its membership is essential to make the world body credible and ensure continued confidence of the international community in the institution.

China opened new Highway linking Medog to Zhamog, near to Arunachal Pradesh border.
* The highway linking Medog, the last road less county in China, with neighboring country in Tibet formally opened to traffic, ending the county's isolation from the outside world.

The Vice-president of India Hamid Ansari had a meeting with the revolutionary hero and the former President of Cuba, Fidel Castro. This was the first ever bilateral visit from Indian side to Cuba.

* During the meeting, India and Cuba signed an agreement on co-operation in broadcasting. It is important to note that India and Cuba are the founding members of Non Aligned Movement (NAM).
