Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) launched India’s first Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) dashboard in a bid to effectively track country’s progress on Agenda 2030 adopted by UN. It was launched on the occasion of National Statistics Day (on June 29). It will be India’s official data repository of National Indicator Framework (NIF) on SDGs, which is India’s largest monitoring framework with 306 statistical Indicators. India has been closely monitoring its progress on SDGs through its National Indicator Framework.

Elections in the world’s biggest democracy have become the most expensive. Spending by political parties and candidates to woo 900 million voters in the just concluded polls cost them nearly Rs 60,000 crore ($8.7 billion), more than double of 2014 polls, according to the New Delhi-based Centre for Media Studies. The report, based on field studies, analysis and estimation, describes that the candidates spent Rs 700 per voter or nearly Rs 100 crore in each parliamentary constituency. India’s poll panel prescribes a seven million-rupee ceiling on spending by a candidate.

A new Ministry called ‘Jal Shakti’ by merger of Ministries of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation along with Drinking Water and Sanitation is created at the Centre. The creation of this new ministry will bring all aspects of water management and regulation under one department. The Jal ministry will be headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat while Ram Lal Kataria will be the minister of state.
