Rajasthan government’s Medical & Health Department was awarded by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for its Tobacco Control Award - 2019. It is in recognition of Rajasthan’s achievements in the field of tobacco control. Rajasthan’s Medical and Health Department was the only government body in country which was awarded for its tobacco-free initiatives.

National Democratic Alliance leader Sri Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pema Khandu was sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He is the 10th Chief Minister, in the chronological order, of Arunachal Pradesh. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by A.P’s Governor Brigadier (Retd.) B.D. Mishra.

India has invited the leaders of The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Member States for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi will take oath for the 17th Lok Sabha on 30 May 2019. The oath of Office and Secrecy of PM’s and other members of Union Council of Ministers will be administered by President Ram Nath Kovind at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
78 women candidates have been elected to the17th Lok Sabha General Elections which is a record by itself. According to the Election Commission, the number has grown from the previous 62 women who were elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014. In the country's first general elections in 1951, twenty-four women were elected to the Lower House, and since then, the number has been increasing.

In Sikkim Mr. Golay’s party, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), won 17 of the 32 Assembly seats in recent Assembly polls. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which had ruled the State for 25 years, won 15 seats. Governor Ganga Prasad administered the oath of office to Mr. Golay in a grand ceremony at the Palzor stadium in Gangtok.

An awareness campaign was launched by the name of ‘Not all animals migrate by choice’ to be displayed at major airports across India. It is to raise awareness on illegal wildlife trade. To garner public support for conservation and protection of wildlife, prevention from smuggling and for reduction in demand of wildlife products. It also complements worldwide action taken on illegal trade in wildlife via UN Environment’s global campaign called Wild for Life. This campaign is launched By: United Nation (UN) Environment India and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) of India.
The government had introduced the FAME II scheme to boost the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has made some observation as- it estimates that India can save road-based mobility- related energy demand and carbon emissions in 2030 by pursuing a shared, electric, and connected mobility future. This reduction in energy demand would result in the reduction of 156 million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in diesel and petrol consumption for that year and net saving of approximately. This would give impetus to India’s vision of reducing oil imports by 10% by 2022.

Indian Air Force formidable workhorse, the Russian made AN-32 aircraft was today formally fleet certified to fly on blended aviation fuel containing up to ten per cent of indigenous bio-jet fuel.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under Ministry of Science and Technology and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), under Prime Minister of India has signed a memorandum of understanding (M o U) for supporting a joint collaborative research programmes in area of Cancer. The DAE was represented by its Tata Memorial Centre, which also functions as coordinating centre on behalf of The National Cancer Grid of India.

Apache Helicopter
The first Apache Helicopter AH-64E (I) was formally handed over to the Indian Air Force, IAF at Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, USA. Air Marshal AS Butola, accepted the first Apache Helicopter. IAF had signed a contract with the  US Government and Boeing Company for 22 Apache helicopters.

Varuna - 2019
The 17th edition of bilateral exercise Varuna - 2019 conducted in Goa from May 1 to May 10 as a first part. Navies of India and France participated in this exercise. This joint naval exercise was first initiated in 1983 and named as 'Varuna' in 2001. The second part of Varuna 2019 is sheduled to be held at the end of May in Djibouti which is located on the Horn of Africa.

Indian Navy’s stealth Scorpene class Submarines of Project 75 was launched at the Mazagon Dock Limited at Mumbai in Maharashtra.
