UP university to set up first goat fertility lab in the state.
Deen Dayal Veterinary University in Uttar Pradesh proposed to set up the first goat fertility lab in the state under Rastriya Krashi Vikas Yojna at the cost of Rs. 22 crore.
The University has entered into a contract with Pradeshik cooperative Dairy Federation for marketing.
About Rastriya Krashi Vikas Yojna:
Rastriya Krashi Vikas Yojna or National Agriculture Development Programme is a State Plan Scheme of Additional Central Assistance launched in August 2007 as a part of the 11th Five Year Plan by the Government of India.
It aims to achieve 4% annual growth in agriculture through development of Agriculture and its allied sectors.

Centre approves renaming of Allahabad as Prayagraj
The Union Home Ministry has approved the Uttar Pradeshgovernment’s proposal to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj.
A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MHA will now ensure that names of other institutes in the district, including railway station, High Court and university, are also changed.
The 'Kumbh Mela' in Prayagraj will start on January 15 on 'Makar Sankranti' and will conclude on March 4 on 'Maha Shivaratri'.

Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair declared as an authorized Immigration Check post
Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair has been declared as an authorized Immigration Check post for entry into/ exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers.
This decision of the Union Government will open up the Port Blair Airport for direct international flight and immigration facilities.
For this purpose, the Superintendent of Police (CID), Andaman and Nicobar Policehas been appointed as the ‘Civil Authority’ for the purpose of the immigration check post.

On January 4, 1948, the Union of Burmagained its independence from Britain and emerged as a sovereign state, Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
Myanmar, the second largest country in Southeast Asia, is seeking to project its influence in the region through ASEAN.
On the occasion of the 71st anniversary of independence of the Union of Myanmar, the ambassador Win Myint hosted a colourful event at a local hotel in Islamabad.

Pakistan declares Panj Tirath site as national heritage.
It is believed that Pandu, a mythical king in Mahabharata, belonged to this area and Hindus used to worship during the month of Karteek.
The provincial Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in northwest Pakistan has declared the ancient Hindu religious site of PanjTirath in Peshawar as national heritage.
PanjTirath, which got its name from the five pools of water present there, also contains a temple and a lawn with date palm trees.
The five pools of the heritage site now come under the ambit of ChachaYunus Park and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced interest-free loans of up to Rs 3 lakh for the women self-help groups (WSHGs) in the state.
This announcement for the women self – help groups (WSHGs) will be getting loans at zero per cent interest.
During the ‘Make in Odisha’ conclave in November last year, Patnaik had promised smartphones to six lakh WSHGs.

9-day long International Kite Festival kicks off in Ahmedabad
In Gujarat, the nine-day long international kite festival kicked off at Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad.
More than 150 kite fliers from 45 countries are participating in this edition of the festival.
The festival is also planned at Vadodara, Kevadiya, Dwaraka, Surat, Rajkot, Jetpur, Songadh, Saputara and Dhordo in the coming days.

Kallakurichi is 33rd district of Tamil nadu
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced the creation of a new district by bifurcating Villupuram district.
Kallakurichi will be the headquarters of the new district and its creation has increased the number of districts in Tamil Nadu to 33.
Villupuram district, which was bifurcated from the erstwhile South Arcot district in 1993, has 11 Assembly segments, including Mailam, Tindivanam (Reserved) Vanur (Reserved), Gingee, Villupuram, Vikravandi, Thirukovilur, Ulundurpet, Rishivandhiyam, Sankarapuram and Kallakurichi (Reserved).

Andaman to be first Island to operate seaplanes under UDAN-3
India could soon see seaplanes being used to fly passengers with the government giving approval to 13 water aerodromes under UDAN-3.
The very first seaplane could run within Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Moneycontrol has learnt that approximately four different islands from Andaman and one island from Nicobar have been selected to fly seaplanes.

Country's longest single lane steel cable bridge opened in Arunachal Pradesh
India’s longest 300-metre single lane steel cable suspension bridge was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
It is expected to benefit 20,000 people on either banks of Siang river, besides bolstering the defence preparedness.
The bridge across the Siang river at Yingkiong in Upper Siang district has been named Byorung Bridge.

The tallest bronze statue (33 ft.) of Swami Vivekanand built at the cost of Rs 17 crore be unveiled in Ranchi, Jharkhand by Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
The tallest bronze statue (33 ft.) of Swami Vivekanand unveiled on National Youths Day – January 12 by Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other dignitaries.
The statue of Swami Vivekananda is considered to be the first of its kind in India and is expected to set a benchmark by grabbing coveted honour of the highest statue of Vivekananda set up here in the tribal heartland after the 22 feet Swami’s figurine at Nagpur decked up at a park in 2016.

Antarctica ice melts 6 times faster than 40 years ago
American and Dutch scientists found that yearly ice mass loss in Antarctica increased sixfold in the past 40 years.
It is the longest-ever assessment of Antarctic ice mass, covering 176 basins and surrounding islands.
The researchers compared snowfall accumulation in interior basins with ice discharge by glaciers at their grounding lines.

According to the 6th City Momentum Index, released by property consultant JLL, Bengaluru has emerged as the world’s most dynamic city with a robust technology and innovation ecosystem in place.
Among other Indian cities, Hyderabad ranked second with Delhi at fourth, Pune at fifth, Chennai at seventh and Kolkata at fifteenth position featuring in top 20 cities.

India has signed a long-term contract with Uzbekistan for supply of uranium ore concentrates to widen its source base for the nuclear fuel.

The Exim Bank signed an agreement with Uzbekistan to extend a 200-million US dollar line of credit for financing housing and social infrastructure projects.

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) named as World Capital of Architecture for 2020
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has named the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro as the World Capital of Architecture for 2020.
Rio will be the first city to receive the title under a programme launched together by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) in November 2018.
The city beat Paris and Melbourne to get the position.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Diffo Bridge over Chipu River in Arunachal Pradesh
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the 426 metres long Diffo Bridge over Chipu River in Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh.
Border Roads Organization (BRO) has constructed the bridge along Indo-China border. The construction of the bridge began in 2011.
The total cost to build the bridge was Rs 4,847.83 lakh and was funded by the Union ministry of road transport and highways.
The Bridge connects Lower Dibang Valley with Lohit, Namsai and Anjaw districts and it will make travelling from east part to west part of Arunachal Pradesh very convenient and time saving.

Tamil Nadu released Startup & Innovation policy
Tamil Nadu government released ‘Startup & Innovation policy 2018-2023’ with a mission to provide an innovative ecosystem for startups registered in the State and to make Tamil Nadu a ‘Global Innovation hub for startups’ by 2023.
The government formed a 5-point plan to implement the policies which include creating ecosystems, ensure resources availability for Startup ecosystem, enable skill development and job creation, support social entrepreneurship and establish global accessibility and partnerships.
The State will set up Tamil Nadu Startup Fund of Funds for Rs. 250 crore which will be registered as an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) managed by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), for investment in startups and MSMEs.

China's economy grew at 6.6% in 2018, its slowest rate in almost 3 decades.
The world's 2nd biggest economy was grappling with the effects of the current trade war with the US and declining exports.
In the 3 months to December, the economy grew 6.4% from a year earlier, down from 6.5 %in the previous quarter. China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stated that last year's growth rate was down from 6.8% in 2017 and was the lowest since 1990 when the growth rate was 3.9%.

It's 86 feet long and was created entirely with a 3D printer.
Shanghai is now home to the world's longest 3D-printed concrete bridge, produced by a team from the Tsinghua University School of Architecture in Beijing.
The pedestrian crossing was modeled on the famed Zhaozhou Bridge, which was built between 589 and 618 in Hebei province, northern China, and is the country's oldest standing bridge.
