International conference on 8th century sage held to mark 50 years of India-Bhutan ties
This conference was organized by the Centre for Escalation of Peace (CEP) and was titled ‘Life and Legacy of Guru Padmasambhava’.
Scholars from both countries participated in the conference and discussed about the Guru who was born in India and moved towards Bhutan in the 8th century to spread Buddhism and Buddhist teachings all across the Himalayan region.
Next on phase to conference, an art exhibition showcasing rare artifacts associated with Guru Padmasambhava was also held.

Summit of Indian Ocean Rim Association
The Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is organizing a meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Cluster Group on Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
Indian Ocean Rim Association is an inter-governmental organization and has many disaster-prone countries among its 22 members and nine dialogue partners.
DRM is one of its priority areas and its Action Plan (2017-2021) has specific goals to improve resilience in IORA countries.
The two-day meeting will feature interactive sessions and will focus on development of a draft Work Plan for DRM in IORA.

6th meeting of Mission Steering Group of National Health Mission was held in New Delhi.
Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare chaired the 6th meeting of the Mission Steering Group of the National Health Mission (NHM) in New Delhi.
The meeting highlighted that the centre is providing funds to all the 36 states/ UTs to provide essential drugs free of cost in public health facilities and to set up IT-backed systems for drug procurement and quality assurance.
Various agenda points of the meeting included enhancement of reach, outlay and facilities within components of the NHM, Prevention and Control of Viral Hepatitis, Immunization, Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
5-Member Committee to Promote Dairy Farming was set up by Punjab to Boost Farmers Income
Punjab government headed by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh decided to constitute a 5 members high-powered committee to prepare a comprehensive action plan for boosting the dairy sector with the aim of supplementing the income of farmers in a result-oriented manner.
The committee will be comprised of including Chairman State Farmers Commission, Director Animal Husbandry, Director Dairy Development, a representative of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU).
The role of the committee will be to recommend measures for promoting diversification of agriculture with the aim of enhancing farmers’ income from allied sources.

67th Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference is being organized by AFMC, Pune
Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is organising the 67th Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference. The conference was inaugurated by Lt Gen Bipin Puri, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services.

It is performed by Nyishi tribes in February to welcome the spring and a successful harvest.
Nyishi is the largest community in Arunachal Pradesh, and are mainly settled in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri Locale and Raga and Dollungmukh ranges of Lower Subansiri Region of Arunachal Pradesh.

5th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Committee Meeting in New Delhi
The 5th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Committee Meeting was held in New Delhi.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Foreign Affairs Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Abdul Momen co-chaired the meeting.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said Mrs. Swaraj and Mr. Momen took stock of progress in security, defence, trade and connectivity, development partnership, water, power and energy sectors and consular and cultural cooperation.
The last Joint Consultative Committee Meeting between the two countries was held in October 2017 at Dhaka. Earlier, Mrs. Swaraj held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Momen.

American members of US-India CEO Forum announced
US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has announced the names of the American private sector members of the US-India CEO Forum among who are MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga and Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf.
The first meeting of the forum will be held in New Delhi on February 14.
The US-India CEO Forum is critical to the fruitful commercial relationship and strong economic ties between the two great nations.

2nd ASEAN – India Youth Summit concluded in Guwahati on 7th February
Union Minister of State for Tourism KJ Alphons and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the 2nd ASEAN-India Youth Summit at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati.
The theme of the summit was ‘Connectivity: Pathway to Shared Prosperity’. Participants were from largest institutions from different countries including political parties, think-tanks, media and cultural organizations.

The Centre announced the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) as the mascot for the 13th UN Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) (COP 13), scheduled to be held in Gujarat next year.
The Government also launched a website for the COP-13.

Latest ultra light Howitzer M-777, self-propelled gun K-9 Vajra and indigenous Swathi weapon-locating radar is testimony to the increasing lethality and technical threshold of our Army.
The Army's aviation assets included the indigenous advanced light helicopter, light combat helicopter, Cheetah & Chetak helicopters.It not only showcased the artillery firepower, but also the aviation and surveillance capabilities. In addition to the gun fire, the display of rockets, missiles, surveillance and target acquisition radars, remotely piloted aircraft and hi-tech equipments was awe-inspiring.
Nation’s first Aqua Mega Food Park commissioned in AP by Harsimrat Kaur
Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park, first aqua mega Food Park was commissioned by Harsimrat Kaur Badal in Bhimavaram of West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.
The park is set up on 57.81 acre of land and the facilities at its Central Processing Centre (CPC) includes pre-processing line, freezing and cold storage of fish and shrimp, an ice plant and food testing laboratory.
The modern infrastructure is set to benefit farmers, growers, processors and consumers of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas and boost the growth of food processing sector in the state.

5th International Dam Safety Conference 2019 begins in Bhubaneswar
The fifth International Dam Safety Conference 2019 was inaugurated by state Water Resources Minister Niranjan Pujari and Union Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation Secretary UP Singh.
The two-day conference is being held under the aegis of the ongoing World Bank assisted Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) as a part of institutional strengthening.
The conference was a part of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) assisted by World Bank envisages rehabilitation of 223 dams in seven States. 26 large dams in Odisha are covered under DRIP for rehabilitation including construction of an additional spill way for the Hirakud dam at Rs 600 crores.

DEPWD organised conference on DDRS Scheme
A Regional conference on Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) was held at Kolkata, West Bengal.
It was organised by the Department of Empowerment of persons with disabilities (DEPwD).
Under this scheme, every year more than 600 NGO’s are provided with financial assistance for running their projects for the rehabilitation of persons with disability. About 26% of total NGOs under DDRS and 46% of Special School for Children with Intellectual Disabilities are from Eastern and North-Eastern States.
This conference provided a wonderful opportunity for interactions with all stakeholders ranging from the Central Government to the implementing agencies. An in-depth understanding of the scheme would enable better outreach in terms of better facilities to end beneficiaries, i.e. persons with disabilities.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the One Health India Conference 2019 in New Delhi
Union Science & Technology Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, inaugurated the 2-day long One Health India Conference 2019 in New Delhi.
The conference plans to launch India's new One Health Initiative - an intersectoral approach to tackling the most urgent health threats in India as well as in low and middle income countries across South and South East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The main objective of the conference was to formulate a roadmap for the response, preparedness, and management of current regional, national and global health challenges using a One Health collaborative approach.
The conference deliberations are focused on identifying needs and opportunities and developing a strategy map to addressing major human and animal diseases of concern including Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, Anthrax, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), together with biosafety, biosecurity, burden of disease and inter-sectoral collaboration considerations.

14th Agricultural Science Congress inaugurated in New Delhi
Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated the 14th Agricultural Science Congress – 2019 in New Delhi.
More than 2000 delegates including foreign agri scientist and researchers organised jointly by the Indian council of agriculture research (ICAR) and the National Academy of Agricultural Science (NAAS).
The Agricultural Science Congress marks the confluence of researchers, intellectuals, creativity and the custodians of global food security. It is nothing short of an Agri-Research Kumbh.

4th India-ASEAN Expo Summit Begins in New Delhi

India and ASEAN represent fast moving economies. The global headwinds have caused a softening of the global growth from 3.1% in 2018 to 3.0% in 2019.
World Economic Situation and Prospects Report 2019, India and ASEAN are set to outpace the global growth. India continues to be the fastest growing major economy and is expected to grow at 7.2% in 2019.
'International Vision Zero Conference' to promote Occupational Safety and Health inaugurated in Mumbai, Maharashtra
Shri Heeralal Samariya, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment inaugurated the 3-day Conference on the VISION ZERO and its relevance to Occupational Safety and Health being held in Mumbai.
The concept of ‘Vision Zero’ is fast gaining international acceptance and is expected to leverage the efforts of the Government of India to raise the occupational safety and health standards in the country so as to improve the occupational safety and health situation.
The concept of Vision Zero is based on four fundamental principles viz. life is non-negotiable, humans are fallible, tolerable limits are defined by human physical resistance, and people are entitled to safe transport and safe workplaces.
The Conference was organized by Directorate General Factory Advice and Labour Institutes (DGFASLI), Ministry of Labour and Employment, German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), Germany along with Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and International Social Security Association – Manufacturing, Construction and Mining. It was inaugurated by Shri Heeralal Samariya, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the 5th IDA Meeting held in New Delhi
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the fifth meeting of the Island Development Agency (IDA). The meeting was called to review the progress made towards the "Holistic development of islands" program.
Bids for private sector participation in three tourism-based projects have already been invited by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. They include eco-tourism projects in Smith Island and Long Island and tent city project in Aves Island.
Lakshadweep, Three projects have been identified for the issue of bids. These include tourism projects in the islands of Kadmat, Minicoy and Suheli Cheriyakara.
Environmental Clearance (EC), Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Clearance and all other clearances required for these projects are being obtained upfront, on priority, to attract more number of reputed bidders.
The potential of Tuna Fish, 10 deep-sea modern fishing vessels are being procured by Lakshadweep administration from Cochin Shipyard Limited.
Export of sea food and coconut products is being encouraged to generate more employment opportunities in the islands.
NITI Aayog organised the conference on Future of Indian Banking
NITI Aayog co-hosted a conference on “The Future of Indian Banking” with the Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare (EGROW Foundation). Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, inaugurated the event.
The conference aimed to increase and elevate the discourse on the banking sector in India, and help develop insights to inform the continued evolution of the Indian banking sector for optimally supporting the growing credit needs of the Indian economy.
The event is expected to host 200 domestic and international participants, including policy makers, academicians, researchers, professionals, and students from various banks, universities and institutes.

National Conference on Logistics Policy held in New Delhi
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, addressed the first stakeholder consultation on the draft logistics policy prepared by the Department of Logistics of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry in New Delhi.
On this occasion, Commerce Minister launches the “SAFAR” Mobile App. This app will help to gauge the actual issues faced by transporters on the road.
The app tracks the incidence of a number of parameters faced by transporters and automatically records the location of the issue. Transporters, truck drivers, and general public may use the app for reporting their logistics issues to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The app is available in 8 languages.
The logistics business in the country is worth USD 160 billion and is growing at 7% - 8% every year. The key objectives of the policy are to reduce logistics cost from 14% to 10% of GDP, create additional 10-15 million jobs in the sector, become a single point for all logistics & trade facilitation and reduce losses in agriculture to less than 5%, by facilitating agri-logistics in the country.
Two-day Regional Maritime Safety Conference 2019 begins in Mumbai

Kim Trump summit: Leaders in day of nuclear talks in Vietnam
US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un have begun a crucial final day of talks in Vietnam on nuclear disarmament.
Their meeting comes eight months after the historic summit in Singapore, the first between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader, which failed to produce concrete results on a path to denuclearisation.
During their two days of talks, the two leaders are expected to have several rounds of discussions in multiple settings, including a one-on-one, aimed at normalising ties and complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
They are also likely to review the progress made after their first historic summit in Singapore last summer.

India-Bangladesh joint military exercise 'Sampriti 2019' in Tangail
A joint military exercise Sampriti 2019 between India and Bangladesh will be conducted at Tangail in Bangladesh.
Exercise Sampriti-2019 is an important bilateral defence cooperation endeavor between India and Bangladesh and this will be the eighth edition of the exercise which is hosted alternately by both countries.
The exercise is aimed to strengthen and broaden the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between the armies.
The exercise will involve tactical level operations in a counter insurgency and counter terrorism environment under the UN mandate.
Cobra gold, one of world’s largest multinational military exercise. Held in Thailand
Thailand and the United States hosted the annual Cobra Gold military exercise, the biggest activity of its type in the Asia-Pacific region with 29 nations taking part as participants or observers.
Around seven countries who participated in the exercise were India, Singapore, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea. The Indian Army participated in the military training exercise with a 14-member contingent.
Thai Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Pornpipat Benyasri and the commander of the U.S. Army First Corps, Lt. Gen. Gary J. Volesky, representing the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command attended the opening ceremony.
About Cobra Gold It is a military training exercise to improve the coordination between the armed forces of the United States and Thailand in both hostile and humanitarian efforts and has been held in Thailand annually since its inception in 1982.
India test fires Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile off Odisha coast
India successfully test fired a Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) from a test range off the coast of Odisha. The missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the India Army.
The air defence system, QRSAM, was test fired from a rotatable truck-based launch unit at Chandipur in Odisha's Balasore district.
The missile is an all-weather, all-terrain missile with electronic counter measures against jamming by aircraft radars. The missile can be mounted on a truck and is stored in a canister. The missile is also capable of tracking.
QRSAM uses solid-fuel propellant and has a range of 25-30 km. The Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile test fire has come hours after the Indian Air Force (IAF) launched airstrikes at various terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC).

Swaraj leaves for China; to hold meetings with foreign ministers of China, Russia

Sushma to reach Abu Dhabi to take part in OIC meet
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will reach Abu Dhabi this evening to take part in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meet.

The agenda will include a number of political, social, and economic topics, along with challenges facing the Muslim world.
The session's agenda, which is being held under the theme '50 years of Islamic cooperation: Road map for prosperity and development', includes the follow-up of aspects of economic coordination that will push the level of cooperation and raise it towards new horizons.
The 2-day conference, which coincides with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the OIC, the foreign ministers will discuss a range of issues regarding peace and stability in the Muslim world, as well as the integration and cooperation among the OIC members.
