Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Indian Science Congress at Jalandhar on January 3, an annual congregation that witnesses deliberations by top scientific minds of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC) - 2019 in Jalandhar, Punjab.
Union Cabinet ministers including Science & Technology Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Textile Minister Smriti Irani, Nobel Laureates, eminent Scientists from across the world attended the mega event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 106th edition of ISC-2019, based on the theme ‘Future India: Science and Technology’.
PM Modi will also address about 30,000 delegates including many Nobel Laureates, Union Cabinet Ministers of India, science policymakers, administrators, eminent scientists, young men-women researchers & school children from across India & abroad.

Indian Panorama Film Festival inaugurated in New Delhi
Indian Panorama Film Festival, being organized by Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of I&B Shri Amit Khare.
The ten day Festival will last till 13th January, 2019, during which 26 Feature Films and 21 Non-Feature Films will be screened.
The entry for the Festival has been kept free of charge. Seating will take place on first-come-first-served basis.

Indus Food Meet 2019 to be held in Greater Noida, Odisha to participate as partner state
From 14th January 2019, the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) and union commerce ministry is going to organize a two-day mega food international event, the Indus Food Meet 2019, Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
Odisha which will participate as ‘Partner State’ will be setting up its own Pavilion with 30 exhibitors to promote exports of food processing sector.
The event which is an initiative to promote the country as a strong exporter of food and beverage products, would be hosting over 600 prominent global buyers from food and beverage industry from over 60 countries.
This 2nd edition of Indus Food is likely to create a global food and beverage market place in line with global food expos like SIAL, ANUGA and GulfFood.

106th Session of Indian Science Congress Concludes in Jalandhar
The 106th session of Indian Science Congress (ISC), 2019 concluded in Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab.
The five-day session was inaugurated by PM NarendraModi and attended by Union Science & Technology Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
As a part of the Indian Science Congress, Women’s Science Congress was held which was inaugurated by Union Minister for Textiles & Industry Smt. SmritiZubinIrani.
The major attractions were the 55-feet, 25-ton massive robot ‘Metal Magna’ installed at the entrance gate.

1st Ever Global Aviation Summit To Be Held In Mumbai
It will be organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in collaboration with FICCI from January 15-16, 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The summit is held in collaboration with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration of US (FAA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), CiviI Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), Airports Council International (ACl) and Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).

Vladimir Putin Invites PM Modi as 'Main Guest' at Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in September 2019.
The invitation was personally issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Eastern Economic Forum is held in Russia each year, where representatives of Asia-Pacific nations are invited.
In 2017, Modi had attended the summit in St Petersburg and stressed on enhanced economic partnership among nations of the East.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 25th edition of Partnership Summit 2019 in Mumbai.
The 25th edition of Partnership Summit 2019, a global platform for dialogue, debate, deliberation and engagement among Indian and global leaders on economic policy and growth trends in India was held in Mumbai.
The two-day event was inaugurated by the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu. The Summit was organized by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, State Government of Maharashtra and Confederation of Indian Industry.

29th Indian Paint Conference - 2019, the Largest Trade Show of Paint Industry to Be Held in Agra, UP
The Indian Paint Association (IPA), the apex body of the country's paint industry announced that the 29th biennial Indian Paint Conference started in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
The theme of the Conference is 'Paints Pe Charcha - Naye Aayaam'.
This is the largest trade show of the estimated INR 500 billion (50,000 Crore) Indian Paints & Coatings industry.

4th Meeting of CTDP Held In New Delhi
Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, chaired the 4th meeting of the Council for Trade Development and Promotion (CTDP) in New Delhi.
Speaking at the meeting he called upon States/ UTs to explore all possible ways of tapping into the global value and supply chain by promoting the export of services, organic agricultural produce, in corporate value addition to agricultural products and fully utilize all the schemes and programs of the Government of India. This will not only add to the GDP of the country but will also create greater employment.
Suresh Prabhu informed those attending the meeting that the Government of India has formulated an Agricultural Export Policy for the first time with a focused plan to boost India’s agricultural exports to USD 60 billion by 2022.

VP Naidu inaugurates 25th edition of Partnership Summit 2019 in Mumbai
Governor of Maharashtra C. Vidyasagar Rao and Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
New India Rising to Global Occasions is the theme of inaugural session of the Summit.
The summit is expected to build new partnerships and explore investment opportunities in sectors like Artificial Intelligence, big data, food processing, defense, aeronautics, renewable energy and tourism.

First India-Central Asia Dialogue to be held in Uzbekistan
The first India-Central Asia Dialogue will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan and will be co-chaired by External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj and the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov.
The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan participated in the dialogue as a special invitee for the session dedicated to connectivity issues in the region, while the Foreign Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan represented their respective countries at the event.

4th International Kite Festival and 2nd International Sweet Festival inaugurated by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in Hyderabad, Telangana
It was organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Telangana and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, as a part of Sankranthi celebrations, at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
This year’s theme for Telangana International Kite Festival was for empowerment of the girl child: ‘Educate girl child and she will save the world’.
As many as 42 professional kite flyers from abroad and 60 from India are participating in the Kite Festival and it witnessed participation of nearly 100 enthusiasts of kite flying from 19 different countries including India.

1st National EMRS National Sports Meet 2019 Held in Hyderabad
The 1st National Level Sports Meet for the students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) was inaugurated by Shri Jaswantsinh Sumanbhai Bhabhor, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs at G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
The Minister also launched an app ‘EMRS Sports Meet’ dedicated on the occasion.

India-Myanmar bilateral army exercise, IMBEX 2018-19 held in Chandimandir
India-Myanmar bilateral army exercise, IMBEX begun at Chandimandir, headquarters of the Western Command in Chandigarh.
This is the second edition of the IMBEX EXERCISE.
This is to train the Myanmar delegation for participation in United Nations peace keeping operations under the UN flag.
It provides opportunities to the army personnel of both the nations to serve effectively in UN missions as also understand each other’s training, tactics, procedures and best practices.

India-Myanmar Joint Training Exercise Begins In Chandimandir
The second edition of the India-Myanmar bilateral army exercise, IMBEX 2018-19, commenced at Chandimandir Military Station that houses the headquarters of the Western Command.
The aim of this joint training programme, spread over six days, is to train the Myanmar delegation for participation in United Nations peace keeping operations under the UN flag.

India to host Conference of Parties to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in 2019.
Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, India will host the 14th session of the Conference of Parties to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in 2019 to address the issues of land degradation and desertification.
The event will be participated by more than 100 countries and it is likely to be held in the month of October 2019.

The 7th ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers meeting held at Ha Long City, Vietnam co-chaired by Tourism Minister K.J. Alphons.
The Meeting was also attended by the Tourism Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Combodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Tourism Ministers welcomed the decision of ASEAN-India Informal summit which was held on 15 November 2018 and launched ASEAN-India Tourism Cooperation Year 2019. Earlier Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also proposed to designate 2019 as the ASEAN-India Tourism Year.

Indian Navy Coordinates Largest Ever Coastal Defence Exercise: SEA VIGIL
Ten years after "26/11", the Indian Navy commenced the largest coastal defence exercise off the Indian coast today.
Exercise SEA VIGIL, a first of its kind, is being undertaken along the entire 7516.6 km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone of India and is involving all the 13 coastal States and Union Territories along with all maritime stakeholders, including the fishing and coastal communities.
Exercise SEA VIGIL aims to comprehensively and holistically validate the efficacy of the measures taken since '26/11'. Seaward monitoring during the exercise will entail patrolling off coast, in Offshore Development Areas and off our islands by the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, supported by the State Marine Police.
The exercise aims to simultaneously activate the coastal security mechanism across all States and Union Territories.
The exercise will cover a wide frontage covering for the first time the entire coast of India, including island territories.

The final planning conference to work out the modalities for Indian Africa Field Training Exercise (IAFTX)-2019 is being conducted at Aundh Military Station and College of Military Engineering, Pune.

The aim of the Exercise Sea Vigil is to validate the effectiveness of measures taken since terror attack in Mumbai on 26/11
Sea Vigil Exercise was a tri service exercise TROPEX (Theatre-level Readiness Operational Exercise) which is conducted by Indian Navy in every 2 years.

The first time, the three day long convention is being organized in Varanasi from 21-23 January, 2019.
The theme of PBD Convention 2019 is "Role of Indian Diaspora in building New India".
Cabinet decides to strengthen NE autonomous councils
Cabinet has approved the landmark amendment to Article 280 of the Constitution to increase powers of Autonomous Councils in Sixth Schedule areas of North East.
The proposed amendment will give more powers to Autonomous District Councils of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.
Finance Commission will recommend devolution of financial resources to ten Autonomous District Councils, and village and municipal councils in Sixth Schedule areas.
About 1 crore tribal people living in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram will benefit by the amendment.

Election Commission of India hosts International Conference on 'Making our Elections Inclusive and Accessible'
The Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted an International Conference on ‘Making Our Elections Inclusive and Accessible’ on the occasion of 9th National Voters Day which is observed on 25th January every year.
The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Sunil Arora and Election Commissioner (EC) Shri Ashok Lavasa.
The conference was focused on sharing experiences, best practices and initiatives aimed at electoral engagement, enrolment and active participation in inclusive and accessible voting exercise in various countries.
The quarterly magazine of Election Commission titled ‘VOICE International’ was also released during the conference.
The ECI also renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of election management with the Election Commission of Bhutan on the side-lines of the Conference.

International Bird Festival to be held at Dudhwa National Park
International bird festival is to be held for 3 days starting from 9th February 2018, at Dudhwa National Park, in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. International Bird Festival to be held at Dudhwa National Park
The International bird festival is aimed to promote eco-tourism in Dudhwa and to gain a distinct international identity.
During the festival a Florican village consisting of 100 cottages will be formed. It will accommodate around 200 bird experts taking part in the festival.
Brand ambassador of the International Bird Festival is documentary maker Mike Pandey.
During the festival, bird experts will explore Dudhwa and collect details about 450 bird species living there.
Technical sessions, photo exhibitions, bird paintings, competitions and cultural shows will beconducted as part of the festival.

Expert Panel Recommends Increasing Number Of Institutions Of Eminence To 30
The Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) set by the HRD Ministry for selecting Institutions of Eminence (IOEs) has recommended increasing the number of such institutes to 30 from the current 20 Institutes.
The selected government institutions can get grants up to Rs1,000 crore provided they meet certain conditions. Although the private institutions will not receive government funds, they will have the freedom to decide their fee structure and courses.
Two Day International Stock Taking Conference on Tiger Conservation inaugurated in New Delhi 
The 3rd Stock Taking Conference on Tiger Conservation was inaugurated in New Delhi. The wide ranging discussions on the status of the Global Tiger Recovery Program (GTRP) by the 13 tiger range countries besides deliberations on combating wildlife trafficking.
The conference is being organized by the Global Tiger Forum which is an implementing arm of the Global Tiger Initiative Council (GTIC), in collaboration with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (Government of India), WWF, Wildlife Conservation Trust (WCT), and Wildlife Trust of India (WTI).

Based on ''Delhi government has decided to introduce Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers based on the report of the MS Swaminathan Commission''.
The move comes just months before the Lok Sabha elections. There are about 20,000 farmers in the national capital.

EPFO’s central board of trustees formed 3 new committees
Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, the CBT has notified new finance, investment and audit committee (FIAC), the pension and EDLI implementation committee (PEIC) and the exempted establishments’ committee (EEC) of the CBT.
All the three committees will continue to have central government representatives as well as two representatives each of the employers and the employees and domain experts.
South India MSME summit 2019 held in Bengaluru, India
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) associations of south India are coming together to organize the South India MSME Summit 2019 to be held at Bangalore.
The summit intends to highlight issues faced by the MSMEs of the region in front of the government and seek suitable solutions.

First meeting of Lokpal search committee headed by Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai held in New Delhi
An eight-member search panel formed to select members of anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal on Tuesday held its first meeting, nearly four months after it was set up by the Modi government.
The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 is an anti-corruption act of Indian Parliament in India which seeks to provide for the establishment of the institution of Lokpal to inquire in to allegations of corruption against certain public functionaries.
