Virat Kohli equaled Sourav Ganguly's record of most overseas Test wins as India captain
Indian Cricket team captain Virat Kohli equaled Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly’s record with 11th away test win as a captain after defeating Australia in the 3rd Test Match held in Melbourne, Australia.
Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy on Australian soil.
Indian team also achieved the record of highest number of away Test wins after defeating Australia in the 3rd Test Match.

Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicket-keeper to claim 20 catches in Test series
21 years old Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant became the 1st ever player to take 20 catches in a Test series by surpassing former cricketers Naren Tamhane and Syed Kirmani who had recorded 19 catches in 1954-55 and 1979-80 respectively.
Pant achieved the feat to take 20 catches in just 3 matches whereas Naren Tamhane and Syed Kimani took 19 catches in 6 and 7 matches respectively.
The cricketer further claimed five dismissals to take his tally to 11 catches. Pant surpassed fellow wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha's tally of 10 catches, going on to equal the world record held by AB de Villiers and Jack Russell.

Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami: Trio creates history in 2018
Indian pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah broke the 34 year record of highest test wickets in a calendar year to become the most successful pace trio with 131 wickets in 2018.
The record was previously held by West Indies seamers Joel Garner, Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall who had taken 130 wickets in 1984.
South African trio of Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn hold the third position with 123 wickets in 2008.

Roger Federer vs Serena Williams: Legendary pair to meet in ‘one-time’ doubles match in Hopman Cup
Roger Federer and Serena Williams, arguably the greatest men’s and women’s tennis players ever, are set to play each other for the first time in their careers.
They will play a mixed doubles match in the Hopman Cup competition in Perth.
Federer and Williams have won a combined total of 43 Grands Slam titles.

ICC announced women's ODI and T20 teams of the year
International Cricket Council, ICC, announced women's ODI and T20I teams of the year 2018.
New Zealand's Suzie Bates was named as captain of the 50-over side and Harmanpreet Kaur of India appointed captain of the T20 team.
Harmanpreet Kaur has been rewarded for spearheading Indian team to the semi-final of the ICC Women's World T20 in the Caribbean.
ICC T20 Women's team of the year includes three Indians Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaurand Poonam Yadav.

Virat Kohli has beaten his idol Sachin Tendulkar as the quickest batsman to 19,000 international runs.
The Indian skipper reached the milestone in 399 innings while Sachin did it in 432.
West Indies Brain Lara and Australia’s Ricky Pointing took 433 and 444 innings respectively to score 19000 international runs.

Rishabh Pant 1st ever Indian wicketkeeper to slam Test ton in Australia
India’s wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper batsman to score a century in Test against Australia on Australian soil after hitting 159 runs on the 2nd day of 4th Test Match at Sydney, Australia.
Farokh Engineer had slammed the previous highest Test score of 89 by an Indian wicketkeeper in Australia in 1967.
Pant has now slammed two Test hundreds.

Pujara faces 1258 balls in Australia series, breaks Dravid's record
Cheteshwar Pujara has set the record for facing the most number of balls by an Indian in a Test series in Australia, achieving the feat in the Sydney Test.
The 30-year-old has faced 1,258 deliveries in the series so far, overtaking former India captain Rahul Dravid, who had faced 1,203 deliveries in the four-match Test series in 2003-04.
He achieved the feat by scoring 193 runs of 373 deliveries on the 2nd day of 4th Test Match against Australia in Sydney.

80th National Table Tennis Championship begins in Cuttack (Odisha)
As many as 35 teams, including 550 players from different parts of the country are participating in the mega championship.
Odisha State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA) is hosting the championships after a gap of 18 years.
This event will conclude on January 9th 2019.

Thisara Perera overhauls MS Dhoni, breaks 22-year-old record in epic 140 vs New Zealand
After a brilliant 2018, Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera continued with his form as he notched up an epic score of 140 runs in the second ODI match against New Zealand.
ThisaraPerera’s maiden century in which he scored 140 runs in just 74 balls, since it pulled off a thrilling victory of 21-runs for New Zealand.
Also, his 140 is now the third-highest score batting at No.7 or below in the ODIs, surpassing Dhoni's 139 against Africa XI in 2007 in Chennai.

India win their maiden series on Australian soil
India scripted history winning their first ever series on Australian soil beating the home team 2-1 after the fourth and final Test ended in a tame draw due to inclement weather.
 India scored 622 for 7 in their first innings and then bowled out Australia for 300 thereby enforcing the follow-on.
It is the first time India managed the feat since they began touring Australia in 1947-48

Hop man Cup: Roger Federer & Belinda Bencic Retain Title For Switzerland
Switzerland's Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic secured victory over Germany's Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev to win the Hop man Cup for the second year in a row.
In a rerun of 2018 final, Federer beat Zverev to give the Swiss an early 1-0 lead. Wimbledon champion Kerber then overcame Bencic to level the tie. However, the Swiss claimed a tight win in the mixed doubles to claim their fourth Hop man Cup title.

Bumrah took 48 wickets in 9 Tests, 22 wickets in 13 ODIs and 8 wickets in 8 T20I matches. He went past Kagiso Rabada, who has taken 77 wickets in 2018.
 Skipper Virat Kohli has rated Jasprit Bumrah as the “best (fast) bowler in the world” and someone even he would have been “scared to face” on a bouncy Perth wicket.
The fast bowler, who helped India win the third Test in Melbourne by 137 runs by picking up a nine-wicket haul, took 78 wickets in this year.

Nishikori, Pliskova win Brisbane International titles
BRISBANE, Australia - Kei Nishikori won his first ATP title since Memphis in 2016 with a dominating final set to beat Daniel Medvedev 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the Brisbane International final on Sunday.
The 2014 U.S. Open finalist served for the match at 5-1 in the third set, but Medvedev earned a temporary reprieve when he broke the Japanese player’s serve to extend the match.

Egypt named as the hosts of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations
Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced.
Egypt has just five months to prepare for the expanded 24-team finals, which kick off in June.
It will be the fifth time Egypt, which won the tournament when it last hosted in 2006, has staged the tournament.

2nd Edition of Khelo India Youth Games Begins In Pune

Hockey India removed Harendra Singh as coach India Men’s Team
According to Hockey India a statement, Indian men’s hockey coach Harendra Singh was removed from the position.
Mr. Singh was given back the charge of the Junior Men’s Hockey team.
Until the appointment of a new coach, Hockey India High Performance Director, David john and current Analytical coach, Chris Ciriello will oversee the team.
Harendra Singh was brought in as men’s coach in may 2018.

Mary Kom attains number one position in AIBA rankings:
MC Mary Kom has attained number one position in the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) latest world rankings.
She became the most successful boxer in world championships' history when she claimed the 48 kg category top honors in Delhi in November 2018.
In the 51 kg category list Pinki Jangra is placed eighth. Asian silver-medallist Manisha Maun is placed eighth in the 54kg category.

Shakil began his record-setting indoor rowing feat in Salt Lake stadium complex and achieved the milestone of covering one lakh metres of simulated distance in 10 hours.

Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed‘s record goes past MS Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist, to become the wicket-keeper with most catches in Britain Cricket Champions Trophy
This was achieved by him while playing a match against South Africa in the Third Test at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
In the match, he took five catches in the first innings and repeated the feat in the second innings to go past Australia’s Adam Gilchrist and India’s M.S. Dhoni.

Andy Murray announces tennis retirement
British tennis player and former World No. 1, Andy Murray, because of his right hip injury, announced to retire from the game after this year’s Wimbledon if he can keep playing beyond this month’s Australian Open.
Andy Murray won the Mubadala World Tennis Championship final in Abu Dhabi. Key Points:
Murray had won three Grand Slam titles: Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016 and the US Open in 2012 besides two Olympic gold medals in singles in 2012 and 2016, 45 ATP crowns, and led Britain to their first Davis Cup triumph.
Murray became the first singles player from the United Kingdom officially to be world No. 1 when he topped the rankings November 7, 2016.

Khelo India Youth Games: Maharashtra rules the roost
Maharashtra won a total of 228 medals, while Haryana and Delhi followed with 178 and 136 respectively.
Host Maharashtra topped the medals table with a whopping 85 gold, 62 silver and 81 bronze medals in the Khelo India Youth Games that concluded at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, here on Sunday.

Mohammed Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to claim 100 ODI wickets, during the first one-dayer against New Zealand at Napier on Wednesday.

Rohit Paudel of Nepal Youngest Batsman To Hit International Half-Century
Nepal batsman Rohit Paudel has become the youngest male cricketer to score an international fifty at the age of 16 years and 146 days, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's previous mark.
He is also the youngest man to score a one-day international half-century, beating Shahid Afridi, who smashed a 37-ball century in an incredible first inning against Sri Lanka aged 16 and 217 days. Indian legend Tendulkar scored his maiden Test fifty when 16 years and 213 days old.

A 73-year-old French sailor has won an unusual, around-the-world yacht race after 212 days alone at sea without modern instruments - his first sailing victory.
