Bamboo rice
In the state of Odisha that had last witnessed Bamboo rice in 1979 and now after four decades, Bamboo rice has shown up there.
Bamboo rice looks like paddy rice and tastes more like wheat. It is not commonly available as it takes many years for a bamboo tree to flower.
It is also believed to contain a low glycemic index (GI) compared to other varieties of rice and it is good for diabetics. It is rich protein content and zero in fat.
Bamboo rice is also believed to be containing medicinal values.
In the Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary in Cuttack district authorities have opened up the gates for the forest dwellers to collect the Bamboo rice.

Model green polling booth in Palakkad

The District Suchitwa Mission and the Haritha Kerala Mission have jointly set up a 46.5 sq ft model polling booth in Palakkad.
This was set up using bamboo and coconut fronds on the advises of the model code of conduct of the Election commission to conduct of election in an environment –friendly manner.

Bengal has won the United Nations 'World Summit on the Information Society' (WSIS) awards

The schemes are "Utkarsh Bangla" and "Sabooj Sathi" for skill development and distribution of bi-cycles to students.

Utkarsh Bangla got the topmost award and emerged a winner in Capacity Building category.
Under ICT application Sabooj Sathi ranked in the first five as a champion project.

The Guwahati Railway Station is the first ever railway station in the Indian Railways to get an ISO certification from the National Green Tribunal (NGT)
This certification is awarded for 'providing passenger amenities in a clean and green environment'.
ISO certification received by Guwahati Railway Station is ISO-14001, which is for Environment Management System as per international norms.
ISO - International Organization for Standardization  is responsible for establishing the standard in the different area of activities.

Chennai railway station renamed as MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station.
Makkal Thilagam’ M G R was a veteran filmmaker, actor and politician. 
He served for 10 years as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (1977-1987).
For his immense contribution to public service, M G Ramachandran was posthumously honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, by the Government of India in 1988.

Election Commission is to use 25,000 EVMs for Nizamabad pole.
As 179 candidates are in fray including turmeric & Jowar farmers as this constituency includes both Nizamabad & Jagtial.
This is the constituency where CM’s daughter K. Kavitha is also a candidate
