December 1

Power utilities expect Rs. 7,177 crore revenue deficit in 2017-18.
The Andhra Pradesh power utilities have projected the revenue deficit for the 2017-18 financial year at Rs. 7,177 crore.
The utilities projected the annual revenue requirement for next fiscal at Rs. 30,069 crore while the projected revenue from power tariff including the non-tariff income is pegged at Rs. 22,892 crore.

Andhra pradesh CM Chandrababu to head central committee to promote e-payments.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is known for his tech savvinessacross the country, will now act as the convenor of a 13 member committee announced by the Union government to promote cashless transactions in India.
The committee, headed by Naidu, wills five other chief ministers, NITI Aayog members, academia and other experts.

Gollapalli reservoir inauguration.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is all set to inaugurate the Gollapalli reservoir, which is a part of the crucial second phase of the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) system, marking an important milestone in the journey towards completion of the project.
The reservoir, which is the second to be completed in the district as a part of the HNSS system, will enable diversion of water to the parched fields and tanks under its ayacut.

Award of Rs. 10 lakh to first 'cashless village'.
Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao offered cash incentive of Rs. 10 lakh to the first village in the constituency which achieved cent per cent cashless transaction in the stipulated time.
The village that comes second will be awarded Rs. 5 lakh.
We stood first in many development activities, including transforming the constituency into an open defecation-free one.

ACB launches 'Anti-Corruption Week'.
Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will organize awareness programmes against corruption and educate people on the activities of ACB, and the need to prevent corruption during the 'Anti-Corruption Week'.
Officers and employees of all government departments will take a pledge on 'zero per cent corruption and 100 per cent development'. 

Sports Day celebrated at V.P. Siddhartha Public School.
Students of the V.P. Siddhartha Public School celebrated its 36th Sports Day, at the school premises in city.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Income Tax Joint Commissioner Sesha Srinivas called upon the students to take part in sports to keep mind and body strong.
Later, prizes were given away to teams that won basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, and chess competitions.

Andhra Pradesh: 8 schools selected for establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs.
Two schools belonging to Sri Prakash educational institutions have been selected for promoting Atal Tinkering Laboratories an ambitious programme conceived under Atal Innovaiton Mission.
The labs will create one million children in India as neoteric innovators. The mission was established for allotting Atal Tinkering Laboratories by NITI Aayog to various institutes.
In Andhra Pradesh eight schools have been selected for establishment of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) an ambitious programme conceived under Atal Innovaiton Mission.
Out of 12,000 schools across the country applied for the lab, only 595 schools have been shortlisted for the final selection which is Innovation Challenge.

'Krishna district topped in cashless PDS transactions'.
A record number of 2.10 lakh cash transactions have been reported in the Public Distribution System across the district.
Mr. Babu claimed that Krishna district emerged among the top districts in the country that registered unprecedented number of cashless transactions in the PDS system.
The Collector directed the officials of the Civil Supplies and other departments to ensure that every family in the district had a bank account.

Chandrababu launches AP Purse mobile app to promote digital transactions.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched AP Purse mobile app featuring 13 mobile banking and 10 mobile wallet options, in Vijayawada.
People can pay their bills using the app and carry out their cashless transactions.
The State government introduced cashless transactions at fair price shops and completed 70 per cent of transactions using Aadhaar linkage to provide relief to people suffering from shortage of small currency.
Currently 2,472 crore rupees was available with the banks and the State will receive another 1,100 crore rupees shortly.

Telangana's Republic Day tableau draws praise in New Delhi.
The Telangana government’s tableau, with which it seeks to showcase 'Bathukamma', the festival of flowers, in New Delhi on Republic Day has found appreciation in repeated meetings of the Ceremonial Section that oversees such national events in the Ministry of Defence.
The committee met in the Defence Research and Development Organisation for the sixth time and only had praise for Telangana’s tableau and choice of theme.

High speed rail corridor mooted.
A 12-member delegation of experts from the Russian Railways held preliminary discussions with senior officers of the South Central Railway (SCR) led by Additional General Manager A.K. Gupta on the feasibility and implementation of the Semi-High Speed Rail Corridor between Secunderabad and Nagpur.

'Health for All' launch in Andhra Pradesh.
The State government is contemplating a new scheme, Health for All. The scheme is aimed at people who were outside the Chandranna Bima scheme.
Addressing the press here, Medical and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas late many people were seeking assistance under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to meet the medical and health care needs as they did not have insurance facilities.
Every individual in the family had to pay Rs. 95 per month to avail the benefits of the scheme.
Expenses up to Rs. 2 lakh would be borne by the government under the scheme.
There was no bar on age to get enrolled under the scheme. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would formally launch the scheme.

'Robotics opens up a new world'.
Advances in researches in robotics have resulted in designing of low-cost and lightweight robotic hand designed to perform expressive hand gestures to grasp small and light objects, Damien Chablet, senior researcher, CNRS, France.
Speaking at the International conference on Allied Electrical and Communication Systems (ICAECS 2016) held at Vignan’s university, Dr. Chablat that geometry of robotics follows anthropometric data and kinematics simplifies the human hand structure to reduce the number of actuators while ensuring functional requirements.

Andhra Pradesh CM launches website of APEDB.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the website of the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB).
The website www.apedb.gov.in would be of great use for those seeking to explore the investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh.
EDB Chief Executive Officer J. Krishna Kishore that the State government was ahead of others in attracting investments.
The website would keep the investors and stakeholders abreast of the latest developments.

NGT asks AP, TS to stop mechanical mining in riverbeds.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in an order has restrained the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from ''carrying on mechanical mining'' in riverbeds.
The NGT Principal Bench, New Delhi, consisting of chairman of the tribunal Justice Swatanter Kumar, Judicial Member Justice Raghuvendra S. Rathor and expert member Bikram Singh Sajwan has asked Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, any corporation, authority or person to refrain from mechanical mining in riverbeds.

State plans to make T-Wallet free-to-use platform.
The T-Wallet proposed to be introduced soon by the Telangana Government to make all financial transactions from people to government and government to people cashless would be a free-to-use platform without any additional fee/ charges to those availing it.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would take up the matter to make all transactions made with the help of T-Wallet free of any charges.
This was stated by Minister for IT, Industries and Municipal Administration K. Taraka Rama Rao chairing the first meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on cashless transactions in Telangana.

APSRTC to use 15,000 POS machines in the State.
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is distributing 15,000 Point of Sale (POS) machines in the State.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced scrapping of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 notes in the country.
The corporation terminated services in some routes due to a drastic fall in Occupancy Ratio (OR).

Telangana files SLP in SC seeking stay on Krishna water tribunal award.
The Telangana State Government has sought a stay on the operation of the award given by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal - II headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar.
The TS government stated that the award given by the tribunal was not justified and once operational, it would not serve the irrigation and drinking water needs of Telangana.
It filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the tribunal’s decision to confine the redistribution of water between the two lower riparian States - Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

CM to inaugurate FinTech Tower in Vizag. 
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will interact with CEOs and top executives of 50 global companies from the United States and other parts, and sign Memoranda of Understanding with four FinTech (financial technology) companies for collaboration with local educational institutions to prepare curriculum.
The MoUs envisage revision in syllabus to create industry-ready graduates for the FinTech sector.
The government is contemplating developing an iconic space in the city such as Lalttice 80, a FinTech hub created by Marvelstone Group.

US infra giant keen to be part of Amaravati dream.
The US-based global engineering design and construction firm now involved in rebuilding World Trade Center complex is eyeing a pie in shaping of the Andhra Pradesh capital city, Amaravati.
One needs to look at concepts like economic activity-linked growth, equity, resiliency and sustainability and guard against unplanned development that leads to gentrification, the urban phenomenon when the affluent start fixing the poor neighborhoods’ resulting in displacement of the poor and low income groups, Mr. Ward with authority and experience in a range of infrastructure projects.

BBC to launch Telugu news website, social media site.
BBC World Services will be recruiting 157 professionals, including journalists and web designers, for its news website in Telugu and three other languages Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi.
This was disclosed by a team from the BBC comprising Rupa Jha and Nivedita, who visited the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Andhra University.
Interacting with students and teachers, Ms. Rupa the BBC would be launching the Telugu website and social media sites to disseminate news, as part of its global investments.
''In India we have plans to launch Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi news websites and social media sites''.

Telangana gets Rs. 450 crore Central aid for backward districts.
The Centre has released a special assistance of 450 crore rupees to Telangana this fiscal for development of backward areas in terms of provisions under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
The backward districts which are being supported are Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy, Nalgoda and Khammam. 
These additional resources from the Central Government would enable the State to devise and implement schemes best suited for mitigation of backwardness and alleviation of poverty. 
The developmental activities will improve the physical and social infrastructure bringing these districts at par with the more developed districts of the state. 
The Centre has so far provided 900 crore rupees to the State for this purpose.

PNB MetLife launches VR-based customer service platform.
Private life insurance firm PNB MetLife launched a virtual reality-based customer service platform.
Customers need to visit select PNB MetLife branches and wear the VR headset to get their service requirements addressed.
Assisting them in this process would be an insurance expert based out of another location.
The platform would display policy related information and engage customers through visual assist elements like animation.

Cultural event held for children.
Children clad in impressive costumes walked the ramp highlighting the need for a concerted fight against black money, as part of a fancy dress show held on the concluding day of Bhadradri Balotsav in Bhadrachalam.
School children from far and near showcased their innate talents in a wide range of cultural and literary competitions at the children's festival on the second consecutive day.
The participants essayed the roles of Bharat Mata, Gautam Buddha, Mother Teresa, Jesus Christ, Santa Claus and others as part of various events during the day-long cultural festival.

GRP launches WhatsApp group for crime prevention, detection.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has created a WhatsApp group titled ‘Team India GRP (Crime)’ to control and detect crime on moving trains and platforms.
Railway police from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh joined the group.
Additional DG (Railways) K.R.M. Kishore Kumar praised the Andhra Pradesh railway police for creating the group.
Team India GRP will help track criminals, prevent and detect cases. Police officers from different States shared information on offenders operating in their respective areas.

Pranab in Hyderabad on 10-day sojourn.
President Pranab Mukherjee arrived at the Air Force Station, Hakim pet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh E.S.L. Narasimhan, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya were among those who received the President.
The President will attend the convocation ceremony of MDS and 11th convocation of BDS courses at Army Dental College, Secunderabad.

Pranab Mukherjee attends convocation of Army College of Dental Sciences in Secunderabad.
President Pranab Mukherjee urged young doctors to develop a strong sense of patriotism and social responsibility as they have a great role in ensuring that nation’s health was good, as it’s an indicator of the country’s progress.
Presiding over the convocation of the Army College of Dental Sciences in Secunderabad, the President called upon the doctors to live up to the good faith and trust reposed in them.
Mr. Mukherjee also presented awards to the students who secured first, second and third rank in BDS.

'Swasthya Vidya Vahini' launched.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched 'Swasthya Vidya Vahini (SVV)' claimed to be one of the world’s largest public health education initiatives to be rolled out.
It is a 10 month pilot project under which 32,000 students of medicine, nursing, psychology and home science will prepare disease profiles of villages by camping there on a daily basis.
The information compiled by them will be used for proper implementation of the schemes of the Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department and take up new ones with prevention (of diseases) as the focus, rather than persisting with the curative approach the outcomes of which are limited.

Centre releases Rs. 1,982 crore for Andhra Pradesh's Polavaram project.
The Centre has through NABARD released Rs. 1,982 crore to Andhra Pradesh towards the Polavaram irrigation project.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley handed over the cheque to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at an event in the Capital.
This funding is being done through NABARD, which has now started funding irrigation projects.

Govt committed to 100 day programme on GHMC.
Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao has asserted that the Government is committed to fulfil the assurances it gave to people before the Greater Hyderabad.
Municipal Corporation elections and it has sanctioned over Rs. 900 crore for the development of the GHMC in the last two years.
The Minister developing the city to international standards would not be possible overnight and it would take around seven years for putting in place the necessary infrastructure to meet global standards.

KTR bats for TESCO handlooms.
Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao handed over handloom fabrics produced by the Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Speaker and Chairman of Assembly and Council respectively and the Ministers during the business of both Houses.
The Minister wanted senior officials to encourage the State Government staff to prefer handlooms for clothing besides ensuring that the clothes could be purchased online by making necessary modifications to the department’s website.

New cement product launched.
My Home Industries Private Limited (MHIPL), one of the largest cement companies in south India, has launched its new product Maha Cement-Composite.
The product is launched on the sidelines of unveiling the new identity of the company’s flagship MAHA cement brand which is a major player in Telangana, AP, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and eastern markets with a production capacity of 8.4 million tonnes.

Suresh Prabhu to inaugurate railway infrastructure.
Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the newly developed rail infrastructure at Secunderabad Railway Station.
The Minister’s priorities will be to commission 500 kWp grid connected solar system and LED based lighting at MMTS stations at Secunderabad.

BHEL commissions 600 mw unit in Telangana.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has commissioned the second of the two 600 MW units of Singareni Thermal Power Project in Adilabad district, Telangana.
Announcing this, the company in March this year it has commissioned the first unit of the project developed by the country’s second largest coal miner Singareni Collieries Company Ltd.
Over 85 per cent of the coal based power stations, amounting to 5,740 MW, in Telangana have been commissioned by BHEL.

Railway Minister lays foundation of Nadikudi-Srikalahasti project in Andhra Pradesh.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu laid the foundation of Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway project and initiated several other development works in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Prabhu flagged off the Double-Decker train between Visakhapatnam-Tirupathi.

The 'At Home' hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee, as part of his annual 'South Sojourn', was a colourful affair with the massive expanse of Rashtrapathi Nilayam lit up like never before.

Chief Minister to launch Janmabhoomi.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the fourth phase of Janmabhoomi programme in Thadakanapalle village of Kallur mandal in the Kurnool district.
District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan, Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna, and Joint Collector C. Harikiran visited the area and inspected the arrangements.
Mr. Naidu will inaugurate Muchumarri Lift Irrigation scheme, which would facilitate release of water to about 30 lakh acres through the KC Canal.
