Malaysia woos tourists from AP
Malaysia is seeking more tourists from Andhra Pradesh and India. The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board has announced special offers and packages for the season.
According to Noor Azman Bin Samsudin, Director (South India and Sri Lanka) of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, as part of the promotional event, the Malaysian government has tied up with Air Asia to provide to and fro air ticket to Malaysia for a price of Rs. 7,999.

AP Assembly okays 5% reservation for Kapus
The Andhra Pradesh government’s move to provide 5 per cent reservation for Kapus by creating a separate ‘F’ category among the list of backward classes has evoked mixed reaction.
Following the move, people belonging to the Kapu community as well as sub-castes such as Telaga, Balija and Ontari would be classified under the ‘F’ category for education and jobs.
Kapus, who have been demanding reservation for more than two decades, have welcomed the move, some activists from other backward classes protested the move expressing concerns that this would cut into their prospects.

Chandrababu Naidu woos Korean firms
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, currently on a visit to Korea, visited the ancillary units of Kia Motors and assured them of the State government’s support to their ventures.
The Korean automotive company Kia Motors is in the process of beginning works on its greenfield plant in Andhra Pradesh, where it plans to invest over $1.1 billion.

Telangana issues guidelines for direct selling industry
The Telangana government has come out with guidelines regulating the business of direct selling industry. Telangana joins Chhattisgarh and Sikkim in coming out with such guidelines.
The ‘Telangana Direct Selling Guidelines Order 2017,’ adopts the Central guidelines and provides clarity for direct selling industry.

President inaugurates naval maritime aircraft museum in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Naval Maritime Aircraft Museum in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Governor, ESL Narasimhan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, Indian Navy Chief,
Admiral Sunil Lanba and Union Civil Aviation Minister, P Ashok Gajapati Raju were also present at the occasion.
This museum features the maritime patrol aircraft Tupolev-142M.
Tupolev-142M is the reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft which served the Indian Navy for almost three decades.

Kacheguda becomes India’s ‘first’ energy-efficient railway station
Kacheguda Railway Station under the South Central Railway (SCR) has earned the unique distinction of being the first Energy Efficient ‘A1 Category’ Railway Station on Indian Railways.
The station has achieved 100% energy efficiency by replacing 1,312 conventional lights with light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, among other steps.
About 370 ceiling fans, too, were replaced with energy efficient Brushless DC Electrical (BLDC) motors fans, and 12 air conditioners with energy efficient inverter-type air conditioners.

UM Lohia Two Wheelers, the Indian arm of American motorcycle maker UM International along with Lohia Auto, inaugurated its third dealership Hyderabad Deccan UM in Hyderabad.

Naidu launches test flight of seaplane on Krishna river
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched the test flight of a seaplane on the Krishna river in Vijayawada.
With a long coastline, rivers and reservoirs, Andhra Pradesh has great potential for developing tourism by introducing seaplanes.
Asking SpiceJet to make Amaravati its aviation hub, the Chief Minister urged Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapati Raju to frame regulations as early as possible to introduce seaplanes in the State to promote tourism.

Andhra Pradesh approves pension for state’s transgenders
Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet approved a scheme to provide a pension of Rs 1500 to transgenders in the state.
Transgenders above 18 years of age, residing in Andhra Pradesh can avail pension under this scheme.
Currently, there are 26000 eligible transgenders in Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh state government has decided to provide ration cards, plots and scholarships, as well as to impart skill development training for financial stability transgenders in the state.
Among other Indian states, Kerala and Odisha have already introduced pension scheme for transgenders.

Andra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandra Babu Naidu dedicates First Digital Village
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu dedicated the first ‘digital village’, facilitated by the Karur Vysya Bank (KVB), at Bandarupalli in Guntur district, remotely from the city.
The Chief Minister participated as the chief guest at the 101st Founders’ Day of the KVB.
The KVB has adopted Bandarupalli, a remote village without banking facilities, and set up a digital branch there.

Andhra Pradesh, UNESCO to set up gaming hub, special school
The Andhra Pradesh Government in association with the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is planning to establish a centre of excellence for children with learning differences as well as a "gaming for e-learning hub".
It will be the first of the its kind in India and in Asia-Pacific region, according to Anantha Kumar Duraiappah, Director of UNESCO MGIEP.

Centre gives ‘green’ nod for Kaleshwaram project in Telangana
Telangana State Government’s Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) has got environment clearance from Union Ministry of Environment and Forest. However, the clearance came along with certain conditions.
The executing authorities will have to report micro-climatic change conditions in the project area during construction/post-construction period at regular intervals.
For preparing plans for greenbelt development and reservoir rim treatment, the executing authorities will have to consult state forest department.
Besides, there are other conditions related to disposal of solid waste, compensation for land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement.
KLIS is aimed at the development of drought prone, upland and backward areas of Telangana States. The project will provide irrigation facilities on 45000 acres land in Karimnagar district.

Freyr Energy bags Telangana’s Southern Power order
Freyr Energy has signed an agreement with Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSSPDCL) for the supply and installation of rooftop solar projects on their offices and substation buildings in Medak and Nalgonda districts.
The company will deploy 300kWp in Medak and 290kWp in Nalgonda, and expects the project to be completed within 12 months. Freyr has completed the survey of the allotted sites. It bagged the contract amidst competition from four energy companies.

Andhra Pradesh bans New Year festivities in temples
The Andhra Pradesh Endowments Department which manages religious places in the state has issued a circular banning festivities and special darshans at temples to celebrate New Year, citing huge amounts spent by temples on floral decorations and banners.
The circular also stated that organizing New Year festivities in temples is not according to Hindu and Telugu traditions as the Telugu New Year is Ugadi in April. The circular directed the temple managements and priests not to spend money on the floral decorations, banners wishing devotees, and making special arrangements.

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurates AP Fibre Grid
Over one crore households in Andhra Pradesh, 50,000 schools and educational institutions, all government offices in the districts, over 5,000 government hospitals and health centres and all panchayat offices will get access to high-speed internet and rent-free telephone and cable TV services from next December as part of the AP Fibre Grid Project.
Inaugurating the ambitious project at an event in Amaravati, President Ram Nath Kovind dedicated it to the nation. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was also present at the vent.

International Sweet Festival to be held in Hyderabad
Featuring more than 1,000 sweets, an international sweet festival will be held in the city for the first time ever, Tourism Secretary, Burra Venkatesham told regional State associations.
Telangana Tourism is planning to hold a mammoth inter-State sweet festival where the most popular delicacies from each State will be offered in various varieties.

Telangana becomes first state to offer free power to farmers 24 hours a day
From being a chronically power deficit region to becoming the first state in the country where farmers are given 24/7 free electricity supply to run their 2.3 million agriculture pump sets, Telangana has made dramatic strides on the power front in just three and a half years.
The 24/7 free power supply replaces the existing nine hours per day free power scheme a poll promise that helped the Congress party to come to power in the 2004 elections in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
After fulfilling the Rs 170-billion farm loan waiver promise he made during the 2014 elections, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhra Rao announced in mid-2017 that free power would be made available 24 hours a day to farmers starting January 1, 2018.
