January 1

A.P. to get 50 MW from Kudankulam reactor.
The unallocated 50 MW power out of the 1,000 MW being generated by the first reactor of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) has been allotted to Andhra Pradesh.
In a statement, KKNPP site Director R.S. Sundar said the 1,000 MW power, being transmitted from KKNPP’s first reactor to the Southern Grid near Abhishekapatti in Tirunelveli, would be shared among Tamil Nadu (562.50 MW), Puducherry (33.50 MW), Kerala (133 MW) and Karnataka (221 MW) and the remaining unallocated power of 50 MW would be given to Andhra Pradesh, as per the latest notification from Central Electricity Authority.
About Kundakulam reactor:
Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power station in Kudankulam in the Tirunelveli district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The reactor would generate 2.40 crore unit per day as it was being operated at maximum capacity of 1,000 MW.

Mahender Reddy inaugurates the State Youth Festival.
Telangana Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy inaugurated the State Youth Festival, which is being organised by the Department of Youth Services at Sampradaya Vedika in Shilparamam.
Advisor to Telangana government K.V. Ramanachary, Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, International Table Tennis Player Naina Jaiswal, Youth Services Secretary Lav Agarwal and other officials participated in the function.
Around 650 participants all over the Telangana State attended the function to take part in different events.

Karnataka HC sets up special bench to hear appeals by ex-Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha.
The Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court has set up a special bench of Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy to hear the appeals filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha and three others who had questioned their conviction in the disproportionate assets case.
The Special Court had held Jayalalitha and three others guilty of corruption. The court had also slapped a fine of Rs. 100 crore on the AIADMK chief and Rs. 10 crore fine on each of the three other convicts.

18 Jharkhand villages identified under 'Green India Mission'.
Eighteen villages have been identified under union government sponsored 'Green India Mission' for undertaking eco-friendly development programmes in the areas falling under Seraikela forest division in Seraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand.
The main objective of the mission was to develop the ecological and economic scenario by choosing different developmental schemes including rain water harvesting and greenery among others.
The forest division has also developed facilities for development of pissiculture and poultry which have helped villagers to earn livelihood.
The Mission proposed a holistic view of greening and focuses not on carbon sequestration targets alone, but on multiple ecosystem services, especially, biodiversity, water and biomass.

KCR launched ‘Arogya Lakshmi’ Scheme for Welfare of Pregnant Womens.
The Telangana Government chief minister Mr. K. Chandra Shekar Rao introduced a new scheme and named it as Arogya Lakshmi Scheme.
The scheme ‘Indiramma Amrutha Hashtham’ is renamed as ‘Arogya Laxmi’ Scheme in Telangana State.
Arogya Laxmi Scheme details:
The scheme provides one full meal and a full each in protein EGG for pregnant, lactating women in all 102 ICDS (Department of Women and Child Development) Projects to improve health and nutrition status of women in the telangana State(INN).
The main aim and concept of this scheme is to provide good health Development to the pregnant women and child.
The scheme arogya lakshmi start in 36,000 Anganwadi (Courtyard shelters) in villages.
The name for the scheme that was launched on January 1 for providing nutritious food for pregnant women and lactating mothers and children up to the age of 6, was announced by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The programme provides supply of one nutritious meal each day to the beneficiaries at the 31,897 anganwadis (Courtyard shelters) and 4,076 mini angandawis (Courtyard shelters) in the state in addition to other food items supplied once a month.
The telangana government will provide one fully nutritious meal with 200 ml of milk for 25 days a month along with one egg each day. For children, aged between seven months and three years, the programme will provide their families 16 eggs a month in addition to a 2.5 kg food packet comprising wheat, milk powder, chana dal, sugar and oil. For children aged between 3 and seven years, the government will provide one egg a day in addition to rice, dal, vegetables and snacks.
The programme is expected to benefit more than 5.9 lakh women and 18.20 lakh children from economically weaker sections of the society in the state, according to an official release.

PM inaugurates 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Sammelanam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Dandi Kutir- a unique exhibition on father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi depicting various stages of his life and work at Salt mount near Mahatma Mandir.
India will be building a monument in Guyana dedicated to the arrival of Indian indentured labourers in the country, Guyanese president Donald Ramotar is the chief guest at the event.
About Bhartiya Pravasi Divas - India has been holding PBD for 12 years now to coincide with the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi back to India from South Africa in order to acknowledge the contribution of the Indian diaspora to the development of the country.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the young barrister Gandhi, who eventually went on to lead the country to independence.
Gujarat government announces industrial policy for 2015.
The Gujarat government announced its new industrial policy for 2015 aimed at making the state a global manufacturing hub, ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit set to begin from 11th January.
It would play a pivotal role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' dream and make Gujarat a global manufacturing hub, said an official release issued in Ahmedabad.
Key focus areas of this policy include infrastructure development, simplification of labour laws and motivation of new innovations through technology transfer.
Industries like auto components, engineering, drugs, cement and chemicals are flourishing in Gujarat. Now, we wish to boost value addition in these existing resources.

Crop insurance schemes for farmers in Kerala.
The weather-based crop insurance scheme (WBCIS) and the modified national agriculture insurance scheme (MNAIS), the two components of the National Crop Insurance Programme of the Union government, are being extended to farmers in the State for the ongoing crop season. Paddy, plantain, cashew, sugarcane, mango, and tapioca are covered under the scheme.
Particulars of the applicability of the scheme for crops in various districts have been specified by the State Level Coordination Committee on Crop Insurances. Agricultural Insurance Company of India Ltd., a Union government enterprise, will be the implementing agency. While farmers who have taken agriculture loans from banks and approved financial institutions are covered under the scheme, for other ryots it is voluntary.
Under the WBCIS scheme, Rs. 10,000 will be the insured amount for an acre and the insurance premium is Rs. 200. The insurance amount for plantain for an acre is Rs. 40,000 and the premium is Rs. 2,200, and the scheme will be applicable in districts other than Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam.

Governor’s rule imposed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Centre has imposed Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, accepting the state's Governor N.N. Vohra's recommendations.
Mr. Vohra sent a report to the President after Omar Abdullah asked him to relieve him as caretaker Chief Minister.
More than a fortnight after the results of the Assembly elections have been out, neither PDP which emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats nor BJP with 25 could get the magic figure of 44 to stake claim to form a government in the 87-member House. NC has 15 MLAs while the Congress 12.

'Operation Smile' to rescue missing children in Telanagana.
In order to rescue missing children and hand over them to their parents, the Karimnagar district police have launched an ambitious programme called ‘Operation Smile’ in coordination with Child Friendly Society.
As part of the Operation Smile programme, Superintendent of Police V. Shiva Kumar had constituted a Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) with one sub-inspector of police and four constables in each police sub-division in Karimnagar district. SJPUs have been constituted in all the six police sub-divisions in the district.

People from 11 countries take Buddha trail in Bihar.
Amid chants of "Buddham Sharanam Gachchami", people from 11 countries on Saturday walked through a 13km-long forest trail.
Lord Gautam Buddha had taken to reach Rajgir from Bodh Gaya around 2,543 years ago.
Over 500 pilgrims converged on Jethian in Rajgir district, around 100km southeast of Patna, for the journey.
The success of the first-ever Buddha Heritage Walk introduced by the Bihar Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC).

Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015 inaugurated.
Vibrant Gujarat Summit was inaugurated at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This summit will be from 11th to 13th January 2015. At this summit many Indian and foreign companies announced huge investments. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from across the world were present at the moment.
Mukesh Ambani chief of Reliance Industries announced to invest Rs. 1 lakh crore in 12-18 months across businesses while Kumar Mangalam Birla of Aditya Birla Group announced investment plans for Rs. 20000 crore in Gujarat. 
Australian mining giant Rio Tinto's CEO Sam Walsh announced that his group would be adding 30,000 jobs in diamond cutting industry in state.

Idukki in Kerala became first District of India to have Complete Rural Broadband Coverage.
Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology linked Idukki district in Kerala to the National Optic Fiber Network (NOFN). The district was linked to the NOFN as part of the Digital India project of the Union government.
The district was commissioned with the first high speed rural broadband of India. With this, Idukki district became first district of India to have complete rural broadband coverage.
As part of it, 8 Block Offices & 52 Gram Panchayats of the Idukki district were connected on Optical Fiber and one Gram Panchayat, namely Edamalakudy, was connected through VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal).
The rural broadband connectivity to the Gram Panchayat of Idukki is being provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). For the first time the villages under this Panchayat would be connected through Mobile phones and internet.

The Bihar Government has announced a cash reward of fifty thousand rupees to couples opting for inter-caste marriage.
A sum of 50,000 rupees would be deposited in the name of the bride with a cap of withdrawal only after the couple lived a happy married life for three years.
In the event of break in relationship, the amount would be forfeited.
The amount to be deposited in the bank can be withdrawn or the term of fixed deposit extended only after the will of the couple.

International Kite Festival organized by the State Tourism department begins in Jaipur.
International Kite Festival begins in Jaipur, Rajasthan today, which was organized by the State Tourism department.
Eighteen international kite flyers from USA, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, are participating in the festival.

Renewable energy developer and technology provider Sun Edison has signed an MOU with Karnataka government to develop five Giga watts of renewable energy projects within the state over the next five years.

Inox Wind to set up wind turbine manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh.
Gujarat Fluoro chemicals subsidiary Inox Wind Ltd (IWL) will set up a single location integrated wind turbine manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district. The plant will be set up with an investment of over Rs. 300 crore
Inox Wind Ltd (IWL) will set up 400 MW of projects in Madhya Pradesh making it the largest developer in the state.

World Bank assistance for building toilets in Chhattisgarh.
World Bank will extend financial aid to build toilets in tribal-dominated villages of Chhattisgarh under Centre's flagship 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.
World Bank will give an aid of Rs. 240 crore in next five years to the Centre for constructing toilets in households in the tribal areas and also for running proposed awareness campaigns.

J&K selected for the National Award of e-Governance for Best District Level initiative.
Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) was selected for the National Award for e-Governance for the best district-level initiative in Citizen-Centric Service Delivery through ICT.
The Department of Administrative Reforms, Ministry of Personnel and Prime Minister Office has selected e-Panchayat of Jammu and Kashmir for the award.
J&K for the first time will be awarded since the institution of awards in 1997. The award will be presented by Ministry of Personnel at National Conference on e-governance to be held in Gujarat from 30 January to 31 January 2015.
About e-Panchayat:
The e-Panchayat project was launched in 2013-14 in Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen 147 Panchayats. Under the project, a decentralised regime of Panchayats has been established with service delivery shifted from block level to Panchayat level.

Jaipur Literature Festival all set to begin.
The eighth edition of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival is all set to open on 21st January 2015. The event, which is now the world’s largest free literary festival, will see a galaxy of literary and musical stars come together for a vibrant celebration of creative expression.
To be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the event is seen as an agenda-setter on key issues from the global economic crisis to the rise of e-books, the current state of politics in the Middle East to the increasing importance of Indian language publishing. 
This year the Festival will look at gender equity in India in a series titled 'Women Uninterrupted', supported by UN Women to mark the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Conference on Gender, leading up to the world summit at the UN this September, as well as 'The Seven Deadly Sins' that polarize society.
The Jaipur Literature Festival was held for the first time in the year 2006 and 18 writers participated in the festival.
No one would have imagined at that time that the festival will become the most prestigious events in Asia to which the lovers of literature would look forward with keen interest.
2007 brought with it likes of Salman Rushdie and Kiran desai to the city of the Jaipur literature Festival.
2009 and 2010 had the who's who of literature from different parts of the world attending the event and the participation of the masses and lovers of literature was also massive.
Last year as many as 226 writers held discussions on various topics pertaining significance to literature and much more than that.

Government approved Rs. 3,382 crore highway projects in Jammu & Kashmir.
The government approved two highway projects in Jammu & Kashmir involving total investment of about Rs. 3,383 crore.
The Prime Minister in the campaign (election) has always committed that Government of India stands committed to improve the infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir. Accordingly the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has cleared these two projects worth Rs. 3,382.66 crore
The first project of four-laning of Ramban-Banihal section of National Highway - 1A (now NH-44) in Jammu & Kashmir will cost Rs. 1,623.98 crore. Another project is related to four laning of Udhampur- Ramban section of National Highway. The 40.07-km road project will cost Rs. 1,758.68 crore.
Implementation of these projects would provide all-weather connectivity from Jammu to the Kashmir valley. It will also reduce journey time from Jammu to Srinagar and strategic border areas in the state of J&K

Kerala to get first International Institute of Music.
Kerala Culture Minister K.C. Joseph on 22 January 2015 announced setting up of the International Institute of Music in Kerala. It will be the first international institute in India that is dedicated to music.
A Trust headed by Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan has been entrusted with the responsibility to set up the Institute. 
The government will provide only land and all other infrastructure facilities will be built by a trust managed by Khan's family.
Kerala Government also identified the land for setting up the school in Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi or Kozhikode.

Arunachal Pradesh launches web-based education programme.
Arunachal Pradesh today became the first state in the country to launch a web-based educational programme for all schools in collaboration with Google.
Christened as Chief Minister Global Education Programme, the education system would initially be launched in 50 to 100 schools of over 7,000 schools in the state and later extended to others in phased manner.
The system is a solution built for teachers and students through Chrome books to bring the power of the web into classroom.
The system would provide free productivity tools to simplify and save time with classroom, Gmail, documents besides providing thousands of teacher-approved apps, books and videos through laptops and tablets.

Kerala to get first International Institute of Music.

The school will be under the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi but would have a separate body to govern it. All kinds of music, musical instruments and musical systems will be taught at the Institute.
Farmers get e-Kisaan tablets: Karnataka Government.
He state government has taken up an initiative to distribute e-KISAN (Namma Raitha), a tablet which would act as a platform to share the best practices in agriculture and serve as an interaction tool among farmers.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who launched the tablet, said the device helps farmers know and understand the best agriculture practices adopted around the world to improve the yield.
IT and BT Minister S.R. Patil thanked a group of IT professionals, working in the United States, who brought out the tablet.
Outlining the features of the e-KISAN tablet,  the minister said it offers information on e-governance, food processing and rain water harvesting among others.
The tablet, which supports Kannada, offers useful and real-time information regarding weather, seeds-crop combinations, fertilizers, pesticides and market.

Goa will host Indo-Russian Musical Festival ZimaFest from 24 January 2015 to 25 January 2015 at Candolim beach. The musical festival will witness a confluence of Russian and Indian music.

ADB to help State in setting up five industrial zones.
The Industries Department is in a buoyant mood with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) coming forward to help it in establishing five industrial zones involving a total outlay of $2.5 billion in the Visakhapatnam-Chennai corridor.
Anantapur, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam and Yerpedu-Srikalahasti are the zones that the government has identified for harnessing their potential for industrial development, according to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
The slew of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) that the government had signed during the period would fetch investments amounting to Rs. 80,000 crore. Works related to mega food park in Chittoor district, an aqua food park near Bhimavaram and the mega weavers’ cluster at Guntur were in different stages.

Chandigarh launches Smart City app.
Chandigarh launched a Smart city app named Smart Chandigarh.
The app was launched to create awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities and provide all types of citizen-centric and public utility services and information to the residents.
The Android-based mobile application is the first and official mobile application of Chandigarh that would act as an interface between residents and officials.
The app was launched by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator of Chandigarh. It is a single e-window to all information related to the department and various citizen-centric services.

Suzuki to invest Rs. 8,000 crore in Gujarat.
Japanese auto giant Suzuki Motor Corporation plans to invest Rs. 8,000 crore in Gujarat by setting up three manufacturing units with a total capacity of 7.50 lakh vehicles annually, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman R.C. Bhargava.
The first plant will have an area of 640 acres and is scheduled to start production in mid of 2017. Total investment of this plant will be Rs. 3,000 crore, and this will have an annual capacity of 250,000 units.
The facility will be set up in line with Prime Minister Modi’s 'Make in India' initiative. These plants will generate huge amount of money flow and also provides employment to thousands of youths.

Central Bank of India opens forex hub in Vadodara.
The first forex hub of the Mumbai- headquartered Central Bank of India in Gujarat was opened at Urmi Char Rasta here to provide prompt and efficient services to importers and exporters.
Ramesh Singh, General Manager, Treasury & International division, Central Bank of India inaugurated this forex hub which is fully equipped with necessary infrastructure such as swift facility, fax Internet etc besides trained staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said it is the first forex hub of the bank in Gujarat after opening of a forex hub in Mumbai in August 2014.
The bank plans to open a forex hub in Delhi before March 2015 and then march to Kolkata and Chennai later this year.
At present, Central Bank of India has overseas office at Nairobi, Hong Kong and a joint venture with Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and the Zambian government. Recently, it also opened a representative office at Nairobi, Kenya.
Singh said the bank has posted its officials in Dubai too for meeting the buyers’ requirements in Gulf countries adding it has also made arrangements for meeting requirements of exporters and importers in Hongkong.
The Central Bank of India has approached the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for permission to open representative offices in Singapore, Dubai, Doha and London.
At present, there are 321 branches of the bank in Gujarat. The business of the Gujarat zone of the bank stood at Rs. 31,000 crore.
