India’s Unemployment Rate Hit 4 Decade High Of 6.1% In 2017-18: NSSO
An official survey that has been withheld by the government shows India's unemployment rate rose to a 45-year high during 2017-2018.
The assessment by the National Sample Survey Office conducted between July 2017-June 2018, showed the unemployment rate stood at 6.1%, the highest since 1972-73.
Unemployment is higher in urban areas which is 7.8% as compared to 5.3% in rural areas of the country. The unemployment rate is at its highest level as in 1972-73.
The rate of jobless rural males rose to 17.4% from 5% and among rural jobless females, the rate became 13.6% from 4.8%.

Horticulture crops production at 314.67 million tonnes in 2018-19; higher than past 5 yrs’ average
As per the 2017-18 (Final) and 2018-19 (1st Advance estimate) of Area and Production of Horticulture Crops released by The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, there has been a record production of Horticulture crops in 2017-18 reaching 311.7 Million Tonnes.
In 2018-19 the onion production is likely to be 23.62 million tonnes and Potato production is estimated to be 52.58 million tonnes.

India's tourism sector registers 19% growth in 2018
The country's tourism sector fetched 234 billion US Dollar revenue last year, registering a growth of over 19%.
He made the announcement at the 2nd ASEAN-India Youth Summit in Guwahati. The country is ranked third in the tourism sector, according to the 2018 report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
Philippines has topped the Global internet usage index
The Philippines has topped the global internet usage index with an average of ten hours and two minutes spent on the internet across devices per day.
India reportedly reported day average daily internet use of nearly eight hours.
The worldwide average usage was over six hours.

Assam tops in budgetary practices followed by states: Transparency International
Assam occupied the top slot in the ranking of best practices followed by states in Budget formulation, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, says a survey by Transparency International.
The survey is based on 4 parameters which include public disclosure, budgetary process, post-budget fiscal management and efforts to make the budget more transparent and citizen-friendly. The states which figured lower in the ranking were Meghalaya, Manipur and Punjab.
Fitch Group arm projects fiscal deficit to slip to 3.6% in 2019-20
Fitch Solutions, the research arm of Fitch Group, Monday projected the government's fiscal deficit to overshoot the budgeted target by 0.2 per cent to 3.6 percent of GDP in 2019-20 fiscal.
Accordingly, Fitch Solutions revised its forecast for the central government fiscal deficit to come in at 3.6% of GDP in FY 2019-20, from 3% previously, which reflects our expectation for a wider fiscal deficit in FY 2019-20 versus FY2018-19.

Govt eyes wider survey to account for missing jobs, silence critics
An index-based survey is being planned to widen the base and get a sense of jobs generated every quarter.
The move was triggered by the recent leak of a National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report and debates whether the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) payroll data reflects new jobs created and greater formalization of the workforce.
A final call will be taken after comprehensive assessment of the committee recommendations as well as views of the labour ministry on the job data,” the official said.

India jumps 8 places to 36th on International IP Index
India has jumped eight places to 36th position on the International Intellectual Property (IP) Index, which analyses the IP climate in 50 global economies, this year. The US, the UK, Sweden, France and Germany remained the top five economies on the intellectual property index in 2019 retaining their spots from the last year.
The index brought out by the US Chamber of Commerce's Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) ranks countries based on 45 indicators that are critical to an innovation-led economy supported by robust patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets protection.
NASA, NOAA report: 2018 was Earth’s fourth-hottest year on record
Globally, 2018's temperatures rank behind those of 2016, 2017 and 2015. The past five years are, collectively, the warmest years in the modern record, NASA said in a statement.
It is predicated that there is a rise of 5-9 degree Celsius temperature in this century.

World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2019 Report Released By ILO
The International Labour Organization released World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2019 report.
As per the report, unemployment rates will fall to 4.9% in 2019 and remains steady in 2020.
Among the age group 15-24 the global unemployment stood at 11.8% which is much higher than it is among other age groups.

Measles cases nearly doubled in 2018: World Health Organization (WHO)
According to theWorld Health Organization, a total of 229,068 cases of measles were reported in 2018, nearly double the number of infections contracted in the previous year.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has appealed to the Member States to close gaps in vaccine coverage.
Measles is a viral infection caused by RubeolaVirus. It is a highly infectious disease but easily preventable by vaccination.

Dolphin numbers have shrunk in Odisha, reveals Census
A census carried out by the Odisha’s forest and environment department revealed that the population of dolphins in its waters has drastically declined from 469 in 2018 to 259 this year.
The census covered all the significant aquatic ecosystems in the state like the Chilika Lake, the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary and its nearby areas within the Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district, Balasore district and the mouth of the Rushukulya River in Ganjam district.
Gahirmatha has 126 dolphins, the largest number in the state.
Numbers of dolphins found in Gahirmatha were more than that in Chilikaowing to the bigger areas.
Chilika had the next largest dolphin population at 113, followed by the Rushukulya river containing 15 dolphins and finally, Balasore with 5.

Unemployment among educated people increased sharply in 2017-18: NSSO survey.
According to the National Sample Survey Office’s (NSSO), The National rate of unemployment stood at 6.1%.
The rate of education among rural men increased from a mere 3.6% in 2011-12 to 10.5% in 2017-18. As many as 9.2% urban men were educated in 2017-18, more than double of the 2011-12 levels.
The literacy levels increased in 2017-18, specifically in rural areas where young women received more formal education than men.
Twice the number of educated women as compared to men was unemployed.

JioSaavn most innovative Indian firm in Fast Company’s 2019 list.
India-based global audio and music streaming service JioSaavn announced that it has secured the first rank India-wise and 28th rank globally in the 2019 list of 50 Most Innovative Companies.
JioSaavn is the only Indian company that made it to the list, published by US-based business publication Fast Company.
The other domestic companies that ranked top on the India list of "Most Innovative Companies" include branded budget hotel marketplace OYO, biodegradable sanitary pad manufacturers Sathi and ride-hailing service Ola.

2019 Passport Index: UAE tops the list, India jumps to 67th position.
The 2019 Passport Index ranks 199 countries on the basis of their visa-free scores and on the UNDP Human Development Index.
The UAE passport was ranked Top on the index, allowing hassle-free travel to 167 countries ahead of the likes of Germany (No. 2).
India was ranked 67th, as it provides visa-free access to 25 countries, visa on arrival to 39 countries and for 134 countries, visa requirement is compulsory.
The ranking of the Indian passport, as per the index, has become stronger in the last five years. In 2015, India's rank was 77.
Punjab ranks first in highest alcohol consumption among kids.
According to a survey conducted by AIIMS New Delhi, Punjab ranks first in the list of highest alcohol consumption among children in India.
As many as 1.2 lakh children in the age group of 10-17 years from the state consume alcohol.
West Bengal ranked second in the list and Maharashtra third.

India Ranks 47th Out of 100 Countries in the Facebook Inclusive Internet Index 2019.
India has been ranked 47th in the overall "Inclusive Internet Index 2019".
The Inclusive Internet Index prepared by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for Facebook.
Facebook-led study has revealed that Sweden topped the index whereas Singapore ranked 2nd and the USA ranked 3rd.
India maintained its previous year rank.

According to Top 10 Hurun Global Rich List 2019, Reliance Industries' 61-year-old Chairman Mukesh Ambani is the world's eighth-richest person with a net worth of $54 billion.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos topped the list for the second consecutive year with a net worth of USD 147 billion.
With a wealth of USD 96 billion, Microsoft founder Bill Gates ranks second, followed by Warren Buffett with net worth of USD 88 billion.
Mukesh Ambani is the only Asian among the top 10.
