Particulate emission pollution from commuting in Delhi highest among 14 major cities: CSE
Pollution by particulate emission from commuting in Delhi is highest among 14 major cities in the country, according to a new study by the Centre for Science and Environment.
The study found that particulate load from urban commuting in Bhopal was best. The city was ranked 11 times better than Delhi. The second rank was acquired by Chandigarh, followed by Vijayawada.
The main reasons behind the bottom ranking of Delhi are higher population than other megacities, highest vehicle stock and total vehicle kilometres generated far exceeds that of any other megacity.
The other cities that ranked above Delhi were Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.

India ranks 19 in ‘Theft Ranking’ for countries with weapons usable nuclear materials
India has improved its ranking by one spot from 2016 and now stands 19th in the ‘Theft Ranking’ for countries with weapons usable nuclear materials, according to the Nuclear Security Index released.
The index was released by the US-based Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), which is co-chaired by Sam Nunn and Ernest Moni.
Australia shares the top spot with Switzerland in 2018.

HDFC Bank is India's most valued brand for 5th year in a row
HDFC Bank retained its top spot in the `WPP and Kantar Millward Brown's BrandZ 75 Most Valuable Indian Brands' ranking, with a rise of 21 per cent in its brand value to USD 21.7 billion.
The new 2018 ranking has grown from 50 to 75 brands to reflect the strength of India's growing economy and a marketplace in which more local brands are emerging to present consumers with increased choice.
Insurance brand LIC comes in at the second spot (USD 19.8 billion) due to the key role played by its pension plan business, while Tata Consultancy Services ranked third (USD 15 billion), having leveraged digital technologies to drive growth and business transformation.
Other new high-ranking brands include e-commerce retailer Flipkart (No. 11, USD 4.1 billion), e-commerce payment wallet Paytm (No. 12, USD 4.1 billion) and Zee TV (No 15, $3.8 billion).

Uttarakhand ranked best among states in constructing roads under PMGSY
Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar awarded chief engineer of the Uttarakhand Rural Road Development Agency (URRDA) for making Uttarakhand the best among States in the country under PMGSY, in New Delhi.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, it constructed a maximum of 1,839 kilometre roads against a target of 1,500 km set for the year 2017-18.

India ranks 130 out of 189 in human development index : UNDP
India climbed one spot to 130 among 189 countries in the latest human development index released by the United Nations Development Programme. Within South Asia, India's human development index (HDI) value is above the average of 0.638 for the region, with Bangladesh and Pakistan, countries with similar population size, being ranked 136 and 150 respectively.
In 2016, India's HDI value of 0.624 put it at 131 rank.
The HDI is a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.

Maharashtra tops the 14th HIV Estimations 2017 report: NACO
Maharashtra has the highest number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in India which is around 3.30 lakh contributing 15 per cent of total immunodeficiency virus-affected people in the country which is 21.40 lakh according to the latest data by Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

HDI report finds inequality high in India, higher in Pakistan and Bangladesh
The latest human development index (HDI) report released by the United Nations Development Programme shows India’s inequality-adjusted HDI (IHDI) at 0.468, or a 26.8% drop from its unadjusted HDI of 0.640. On both indices (the higher the better), India is ahead of Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Delhi's IGI Airport 16th busiest in the world; over 6 cr passengers visited in 2018
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in the national capital has been ranked as the 16th busiest in the world, handling 6.34 crore passengers in 2017. The airport is 16th among the world's top 20 busiest aerodromes in terms of passengers handled on an annual basis.

India ranks 158th among 195 countries in health care investment
India ranks 158th in the world for its investments in education and healthcare, a survey of 195 countries has revealed. It ranks below countries like Sudan, Azerbaijan, China and Bosnia Herzegovina. According to the survey, Finland tops the list of 195 countries in the two key sectors.

India ranks 96th on Economic Freedom Index; HK, Singapore retain top spot
India’s rank improved by a couple of notches, but it was still placed 96th among 162 countries in this year’s report on Economic Freedom in the World, released by the Centre for Civil Society (CCS) in conjunction with Canada’s Fraser Institute. Last year, India’s rank was 98.
India improved its score on parameters such as legal system and property rights, access to sound money, freedom to trade internationally and regulation of credit, labour and business. However, its score declined in size of the government.

Times World University rankings 2019: Look at top 10 universities of world
The Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru retained its position as the highest-ranked centre in India, ‘Times Higher Education World University Rankings’ released. While IISc Bengaluru has been ranked the best in the country and was placed between the 251-300 band, IIT Indore, Bombay and Roorkee with Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara University from Karnataka make the country’s top five.
Oxford University has emerged the best institutes across the globe, followed by Cambridge and Standford.
