Australia hits record migration for the fifth year running

The Australian government has announced that the migration programs for 2017 will remain for the fifth year in a row at its highest level – 190,000 permanent residency places.

These are broken down with 128,550 for skilled migration (including General Skilled Migration, permanent Employer Sponsorship and Business Skills) and 57,400 places for family migration. The remaining places comprise 565 under the Special Eligibility stream and 3,485 for Child category migrants. This break down of the available permanent residency places remains exactly the same as the 2015-16 program year that is now nearing conclusion.

The official media release from the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection with these 2016-17 Migration Program figure.

John Adams, the managing director of emigration specialists Immigration2Oz, comments, “Australia’s migration program again is making available the most permanent residency visas in its history demonstrating Australia continues to welcome migrants with open arms, with those from the UK always filling a major component of this intake. As Australia’s economic growth stands at 3%
and 4 of its cities are in the top 10 most liveable according to The Economist, Australia retains its traditional position as a migration destination of choice for Brits considering making a permanent move.”
