      Director, Global Tree,

This is a very crucial and important time for all those students, who are in their final year. It’s a life deciding time for them. There are mainly two options in front of them. One is to find a job and start working after the completion of course and the other being higher studies. For higher studies as well they have two options, one in India and the other one being overseas. Take a look on the guidelines and requirements for a student to plan to study overseas.

    Deciding on the country
Students have a lot of options to study overseas these days and more than 15 countries to study depending on their requirement.

Its important to zero down on a country now so as to start processing their application forward. The most sought over destinations in the order of their priority are as below:
    1. USA
    2. Germany, Sweden, Austria etc. (Free Education Contries)
    3. Canada
    4. Australia
    5. Newzealand
    6. UK
    7. Ireland, Singapore, Cyprus, france etc.

Once the student has decided on the country where he wants to study, its very important to know when the intakes are starting for the same. Most of the countries also have a follow up intake after the immediate intake is over. Majority of the institutions have a July or a September Intake start for most of the countries.
USA: August/ September followed by January
    Germany: September/October followed by March
    Canada: September followed by January

Australia/ NZ: July/ August followed by November (Very few instutions) followed by February/ March
UK: September/ October followed by January
Singapore: July followed by October and January
Most of the other countries have a September/ October start.
Even though there are follow up intakes, its very important to know that by large July and September Intakes are the biggest and its in the best interest of the students to go for July or September as they will have more choices and they also will not miss any time after their course completion.

    Process flow
Now that you have finalized the country and you know about the intake, Its very important to know the process for applying into the institutions and not miss the deadlines. Depending on the country and depending on the institutions the requirement and the deadlines vary. Its very important for the student to make sure that he is aware of these things and starts the process at the right time. He also has to keep in the mind the Visa processing tenure.
Most of the students would finish their courses in the months of April and May. So if the students start looking at the options at that time they will miss the July/ September Intake.
So, it becomes all the more important they are aware of the requirements and start their processing early. It often happens that the student settle for a smaller instutions as they have not started the processing at the right time. So, people have to understand the importance of applying on time and that’s the reason, if they plan before December to get the right admissions.

The deadlines of various institutions vary depending on the course and their processing times. It will also depend on the countries they have chosen.
For USA: For September intake- Some of the good institutions have deadlines as early as December of the previous year. March is the deadline for the most of the institutions and May is the deadline for some of the other institutions. Its very important that they hurry up now to make sure that they don’t miss on the deadlines and immediately apply for the same.
For AUS/ NZ: July Intake- Though most of the institutions don’t have a deadline for the application, the student have to be aware that the processing time for the admission varies from 3-4 weeks and they also have to keep in mind that the visa is a drop box system and it will as well take 2-4 weeks for the approval.
For Free Education Countries (Germany, Sweden, Austria):
The admission in these countries is a very long process and most of the instutions have their deadlines in May. But its always advisable to apply earlier as there is a higher chance of getting admission into the institution. It always advisable that they apply much before and may be before December to have higher chances of admission.
For UK: September Intake- Most of the instutions have deadline until July and few can be applied later as well. The admission process is fast and the visa is also approved faster. So for UK, even if the process is started as late as in July, the student will be still be able to make it most of the instutions.
For Canada: Sep Intake- If the student is applying for Universities, its advisable to make sure that the applications are done as early as possible even though the deadlines are until May. Some universities have deadlines in March but the admission process takes a longer time ranging from 6 weeks to 12 weeks and some times more. Where as if the student is applying for community colleges the general deadline is May but many of the instutions accept until July.
Other countries: For other countries, the admission and Visas are much easier and faster and its advisable to the students that they start the process 2 months before the intake.

    Entry Criteria
Most of the institutions require a First class pass and many instutions accept second class pass as well. But the requirements of other testes vary from country to country and also to the institutions.
For USA: GRE and TOEFL/ IELTS are recommended for most of the instutions and it’s a must for some of the instutions. Some instutions still accept without the GRE but its advisable to have it for the visa purpose. For Business courses, GMAT will be required. Students with lesser backlogs will have a higher chances of admission when compared to students with more backlogs.

For Free Education Countries: TOEFL/ IELTS is a compulsory for all the instutions but the requirement of GRE is specifically required for most of the instutions in the Engineering courses. Its also observed the admissions are given to the students with a high Academic percentage.
For Ausralia/ NZ: IELTS/ Toefl is a must and most of the instutions need IELTS 6 bands or more. GRE/ GMAT is not a requirement and students with good academic percentages stand a chance of getting scholarships.
For Canada: Most of the students go the community colleges in Canada and they require only IELTS. But there is condition on the no of backlogs the student has during his/ her course. Its compulsory that the student should not have more than 8-10 backlogs for his admissions and Visa. GRE and GMAT are required by the universities depending on the courses the student chooses.
For UK: Most of the instutions need only Toefl/ IELTS for the admission but some instutions waive IELTS/ Toefl if he has good scores in his previous studies.
For Singapore and other Countries: For these countries, the entry criteria is very simple and easy with a Bachelors first class pass.

There might be a higher requirement based on the institutions. Keeping in mind the above facts its advisable that the student starts processing in the beginning
of their final year so as to get admits in better universities and to get scholarships which are often given a first come first basis.
